Yep, Feedburner Drops Friendfeed From the Subscriber Count… For a Few Days

UPDATE 12/28: All is restored. But I think my opinion, below, still stands in spite of the personal cost.

UPDATE 12/27: Hold the phone! There hasn’t been much communication about this issue from Feedburner or Friendfeed, but just a couple of hours ago, Feedburner posted this update on Twitter: “As many have noticed there appears to be a reporting issue with FriendFeed subscribers. The cause is currently under investigation.” So perhaps I’m wrong! We shall see!

Overnight (Christmas, at that), the subscriber count for this blog went from over 2,000 to around 100ish. Ouch. The reason? This blog is fed to my Friendfeed stream, which was formerly counted into the Feedburner count. But no more. For me, this obviously stinks a bit, but I understand the change and even welcome it.

The Immeasurable Value Of One Great Fan

I have somehow amassed a little over 11,000 followers on Twitter, which affords me an opportunity to poll the crowd now and then. Sometimes, when I’m at the end of my feed reading and I’ve got five extra minutes, I’ll send out a brief tweet that says something like, “Anybody have a good blog on social media / blogging / etc. you need another reader for?” I’ve asked this four times in various forms. Surprisingly, I’ve only gotten about two links sent my way.

I’m not sure what to make of that. Maybe nobody is actually listening to me. Maybe nobody has a blog… okay, it’s not that. Maybe people on Twitter just aren’t that into marketing their own stuff… again, that can’t be it. Or maybe, just maybe, we’ve lost all sense of the value for one great fan.
