All new bloggers want to make money to sustain their efforts, but they soon learn it’s no easy
feat. There’s a huge difference between writing for fun and writing for business–and one needs
to learn it quickly if they stand a chance at making a true side hustle or full-time income from
What are the biggest setbacks with making money blogging?
1. People don’t know how to sell, they just know how to write.
2. They don’t yet have a following to sell anything to.
If these are your obstacles, sales funnel guest blogging is your solution. Here’s how it works.
What Is A Sales Funnel?
A sales funnel is a marketers way of driving qualified, targeted leads through a sequence of
events until they purchase a product or service.
That might sound confusing, so here’s the long version.
You would put on your marketing hat and find other blogs out there that write about the same
topics you write about–meaning they attract the same kinds of readers you do.
Then you would use your guest post to attract readers to your blog or website where they would
essentially purchase whatever it is you’re selling.
Finding The Blogs
Go to Buzzsumo.com and register for an Enterprise Trial (no credit card required). At the end of
the trial you can opt into their free plan, but they don’t offer the free plan up front. You have to
start with a trial.
Assuming the product or service you’re selling is in your niche topic, do a search on Buzzsumo
for your topic of choice once you’re in the platform. On the results page filter your results to be more current and only be guest posts. Take note of all of the blog URLs in the results–these are all blogs that are accepting guest posts on your niche topic.
Write a Conversion Post & Byline
Now that you’ve chosen your roster it’s time to start writing. Do what’s fun for you. Write for value. Write what you know. Don’t try to sell anything in your guest post, but be an expert on what you’re writing about, and write it at an angle that seeks to give the audience guidance and value rather than at an angle that seeks to self-express. Once you do that, you’ll gain a portion of the audience’s respect and curiosity to know more about the topic you seem to be such an expert about.
This is when they’ll check out your byline to learn more about you. In your byline you’ll include a
link to your website and a link to your lead magnet. For instance, if Nancy has a makeup shop and just wrote about foundation, her byline might say “Nancy is the founder of [XYZ Makeup Shop]. [Check out her Free Contour Training Video] to learn the magic natural looking contouring.” where everything in block parentheses is a hyperlink to her lead magnet and shop.
Finishing The Funnel
Your lead magnet doesn’t have to be a free training video, it could be another blog post that’s
relevant to the one you’ve just written. Assuming the former you would already have an email list and landing page setup. Assuming the latter, you would go back and inject a sales or affiliate link in the post on your own blog that you’re using as a lead magnet for your byline. That’s It. You make money blogging by blogging with a purpose. Follow these steps to start using your guest blogs as lead generation machines and make money blogging.
