6 Things To Do in First Week of Blogging

FIRST-WEEK-OF-BLOGGING

If you are new into blogging then this article is going to help you a lot.

If you are saying in your mind, “I am not new in blogging” you need not to worry because this article still has something for you. Because you might be thinking to start a new blog soon or lacking some of the things on your blog which I am going to mention here.

You know very first step in starting a blog is selecting a great looking domain and then selecting a perfect theme for your blog. I am assuming here that you have done both the steps very carefully.

Let’s dive into this article and read what are the things you should do in first week of blogging.

Write “about us” Page

This is the most accessed page on your blog. If you don’t have this page on your blog yet then you are losing big portion of returning traffic. Blogging have one truth that people love to read the blogs which give personal touch to them and where they can read about the author of the blog. Here are some things which you can write in about us page.

  • History of your blog.
  • Main purpose of your blog.
  • Introduction about yourself.
  • Achievements of your blog.
  • Social Media statistics about your blog.

As I told you this is the most accessed page on your blog, so you must insert your optin form in this page. There are more tendencies to get visitors subscribed after reading about you.

Add “Contact us” Page

This page is going to help you to interact with readers and they can be in touch with you with this form. Further advertisers can contact you via this page if they are having interest to advertise on your blog.

This page will give freedom to your readers to contact with you. They can give suggestions, ask questions, ask for any specific article and too many other things.

Add “Privacy Policy” and “Disclaimer Page”

These pages are must for every great blog. So add these pages to give clear intention to your visitors. In disclaimer you can tell your readers that I am promoting affiliate products on my blog so I will be earning commission if you will buy any product with my affiliate link.

Burn your blog for FeedBurner

Having your blog feed is one of the most important step. Because there will be many users who would like to have your blog news in their inbox. So burn your blog for FeedBurner and then use that widget on your blog to allow users to subscribe you.

In FeedBurner you can do setting that when you want to deliver the content in subscribers inbox when you hit publish at your blog.

PS: If you are going to use any E-Mail marketing services like aweber/mailchimp etc then do all the required setting there.

Decide the main categories

Write down all the main categories in your notebook which you are going to cover in your blog. This practice will not only help you to reduce distraction but you will be having clear idea in your mind that what you are going to write.

After getting proper idea and writing them down it’s time to add them on your blog. Make categories and subcategories with proper care and keep adding more valuable categories in your blogging journey.

Make your Social Media Accounts

Social media is sending big amount of traffic these days. So having account on Facebook, Twitter, Google Plus have become mandatory for every blogger.

Always try to make these accounts with your blog name only. Like I have my accounts on these social media with url bloggingcage.

Here are the examples

http://www.facebook.com/bloggingcage

http://www.twitter.com/bloggingcage

Final Words!!

These simple steps will help your blog to have basic pillars and every new visitor who will land on your blog will be having good feeling.

Now it’s time to write great content and promote them more and more so that you can have great audience in future.

Spend your time doing these steps in first week of blogging. And these steps are going be always with you. On whatever stage your blog will reach in future but these 6 things will be always with your blog.

All the best.

The only thing I wanted to add when I started my blog, don’t get over excited and write loads of posts all at once! This is on the lines of my main mistake! Work out how often you are going to write a Post and stick with it. Have fun!

  32. Great article Kulwant,

I really enjoyed reading your article. I really liked the last tip which you have shared and explained nicely about creating accounts on social media sites. It’s very essential to be an active user on social media sites. It’s will really help you to gain a good amount of visitors and now Google also give value to your social activity. From my point of view having a good social account with regular activity can give you a good SEO strength. Make sure you focus on your goal try to expand your network with your social network. This will help you in the long run.

Also I would like to share few tips on creating About Me page. Do you know Kulwant, My About Me page is the second most visited page in my blog. Make sure you must create a Kick-Butt one. It’s very crucial to keep it focused and never lie about yourself. The next important thing is to remember is never leave your About us page without having a strong call to action. This is another great opportunity to grab some interested readers to your subscriber list. ;)

I am waiting for your next guest post on We-Blog-Better.

Social media have become such an integral part of our life in every aspect that we cannot deny it. Grabbing all vanity url is really a good move because you don’t know when your blog will be turned into a big business. So at that point you might have little problem.

I can understand that ABOUT ME page would be one of the top page on your blog, because the fact is, when people enjoy the articles they check writer behind that blog.

Congrats to you for attracting great readers which are keen to know more about you.

Keep putting your best and loving blogosphere.

      Hi Cody,

Yeah, every blog needs at least those basic pages. I think the Disclaimer and Privacy policy are a must if you are doing any affiliate marketing or selling any products on your site. Some affiliate programs will suspend your account if you don’t have them.

      All the best!

I’m myself an owner of 5 days old blog and I think I’m under this category.
Well put Kulwant. Thanks for reminding me to add the Privacy Policy and Disclaimer Page. I’ve really forgotten about them.

What would you suggest me? – Going to back linking and getting some popularity after writing some quality content or before writing some articles?
I’m really confused in that case.
    Thanks in advance.

    • Thanks for following me here too. ;)

See Zion, you cannot influence people until you have something great to show them. This world have become more of showy, so you will have to put these things together.

There is no need to write great articles if you don’t have audience to read. So in first few month keep ratio of 70:30. Means 70% on other blogs and 30% for your own.

So I will suggest that keep writing great content and connecting with fellow bloggers. Soon people will start noticing you and there will be BOOM in your blogging career.

Keep running both the things. Write well and make your identity.

All the very best for future.

  38. I agree with most of the points except feed-burner one. I may be wrong but i think RSS and more importantly feed-burner is kinda outdated technology. Most of us spend time living a social life. So rather then focusing on increasing feed readers, i think its better to invest in increasing social presence. And you missed one very important point i.e. going mobile. With the advent of smartphone, mobile optimized sites are very much important.

  42. Well put Kulwant. Having presence in social media is very essential when it comes to new blog outreach. It also helps to promote latest posts which might be buried under the fence otherwise. I strongly recommend everyone to setup an email newsletter or subscription box at least. It was my biggest mistake as I had lost a heap of returning users. Keep this up and all the best.
