5 Reasons That Force Me to Reject Your Comment on My Blog

Rejecting Your Comment on my blog

Blog Commenting is one of the best and recommended methods for driving targeted traffic and backlinks to a website.

No doubt, you will gain many more benefits from your blog commenting activities if you are doing it with a positive frame of mind and want to contribute something to the blogging community.

But as there is a good and bad way to go about blog commenting.

If you are serious about it, you will end up writing a decent comment but the result could be bad or just a waste of time if you are not taking it seriously.

If you happen to be the owner of a popular blog, you will encounter all kinds of comments on your blog. Some of them will be good, some average and lots of them just spam which you definitely won’t publish on your blog.

Before moving on to the topic for the day, let’s talk in brief about a few benefits you will enjoy if you do blog commenting the right way:

  • You will get lots of targeted backlinks
  • You will be able to drive lots of quality traffic to your website
  • You will end up building a healthy relationship with fellow bloggers and their readers
  • Better presence for you and your brand in the blogging industry

I have been working in the blogging niche for quite some time now and I used to moderate lots of comments on my blogs.

Here are 5 reasons why I decide to reject a particular comment on my blog:

1. Not Using Your Real Name

This is the most obvious reason why I used to reject lots of comments on my blog. Many commentators would write comments while using SEO Optimized Keywords in name field.

If you are a real person, don’t use keywords in your name field. No one you know actually calls you “Best SEO Services” or anything of that sort. You should be using your real name or your brand name in the name field to help me approve your comments on my blog.

2. Your Comment is not Relevant to the Topic in Hand

I will instantly reject your comment if it is not in line with the topic in hand. I really hate those short comments like Nice post, Cool Post, Love Your Post, etc. Such kinds of comments are not going to take my blog anywhere.

I would love to accept only quality comments on my blog. If your comment is related to the post topic, even if its short, I will approve it. So when writing comments on a blog post, make sure you are not repeating this mistake. And you should read the post content once before you start writing your comment.

3. Your have Added Links in Your Comment Body

Normally, you should be entering your website URL in the URL section and not in the comment body section. If you are adding self-serving links that have no relation with the topic, you are inviting me to move your comment from Pending State to Spam state. So make sure you are not using any unrelated or affiliate link in the comment body.

4. You are Sharing the Copied Content

On some occasions, I happen to see some lengthy comments on my blog. Sometime they are as big as as our normal blog posts. Even a few of them look to be related to the topic in discussion, but I love to see if the commentator has written it specifically for my blog or its just copy and paste work. I would not want to publish duplicate content in any form on my blog to be on the safer side with Google. To check the uniqueness of such suspicious content, I use to search a line of text from such comment in doubt quotes on Google.

5. You Are Using Bad or Hatred Language

If you are using bad language or your comment contains words of hatred, I’m not going to publish your comment by any means on my blog. I would also reject a comment if its against the fact or its commentator is trying to misguide my blog readers with his nonsense ideas.

These were some of common reasons, which ask me to reject a comment on my blog. Do you keep certain points, have some policy in mind before making decision about accepting, or rejecting a particular comment on your blog? Please share in the comments section.

  3. This is a great post and one I can empathise with fully. I have had a real issue with some comments on my blog. In particular I have received some REALLY long comments.

Quite often I will write back to the commenter, thanking them and suggesting that a comment is a comment, not a post. I actually helped one guy who had a lot to say to set up his own blog.

What do you think? Is this a good strategy?

    All the best,

  9. I agreed with all your points, but I think you went too far by not allowing comments on your blog, I think you should just do away with the one that violate the rule.

  10. I feel you, Anil! Comments that pretty much just paraphrase what is written in my post is one more thing that can cause me to hit the delete button. I agree with Frank. There are a lot of bloggers out there that are only concerned about getting links back to their own blog. Sadly, they don’t seem to understand the other half of the equation: leaving comments would be a successful way of getting links if the quality of the comments is also good. Making sure that you’re contributing something more to the blog post is one way of doing that.

  12. For some, the safety behind electronic cigarettes (or “E-Cigarettes”) is about perspective—how safe are conventional cigarettes? Some question the safety of E-Cigarettes, but one must think about the millions of deaths caused by the tobacco in cigarettes. When put in that perspective asking whether or not E Cigarettes are safe almost seems like a silly question since they contain no tobacco. Despite this, we will still take a closer look here at the safety of E-Cigs in evaluation of whether or not they truly are a viable alternative to conventional cigarettes.

  15. Spam spam spam, it’s something we’ve all had to deal with from the beginning and will probably be dealing with for as long as we have our blogs. I had to opt for a blocker after reviewing comments myself got to bothersome, but I still find myself having to review comments to pick out those clever enough to get past teh spam blocker

  16. Comment spamming is a bit pain in the **s. I used to get a lot of them. A spam blokker helps. Or turn of commenting alltogether. Still difficult to get all of them out. Also filtering by hand is not always easy. Even in these comments there are a few comments which seem spam (see your rule #2 for not accepting.)

  17. Spam comments are inevitable if you are allowing comments on your blog. It can take time to moderate them, which is why in some cases bloggers turn off comments all together. The correct way to comment on a blog is to actually read the post and make a comment that adds to the discussion.

  20. I agree on all points and feel your pain. I have an SEO related blog and often get comments about my excellent wedding services etc etc. I usually don’t even accept comments of ‘praise’, unless they have some sort of relevance to the blog in question! I will stop now before I start venting too much ha

  21. I agree with all your points and everyone else’s comments. I hate Spam comments. Which is what i get a lot off. My Car Valeting in Brighton site is around 6 months old. I tend to trash anything which is unrelated to the blog or the most common spam comment is stating that there is something wrong with my images. The only thing I was going to ask advise on as I am new to blogging, what Spam filter do you use? Plus, Great Post!

  22. Spam is one of the things every blogger has to face in the long run and will always have to even in future. Mostly well known blogs are the target for people who comment just for a link to their site. Everyone should know the right commenting ethics before making a comment or it would end up as a spam.

Even I don’t allow people who don’t write their own name to comment on my blog. And the comment that I hate the most is “Thanks. Visit: xyzsite”. These type of comments irritate the most. By the way, nice post Anil.

Very serious problem, especially after last google update.. For Couple month my site and blog is spammed of such comments. A lot or marketers/spammers doing guest posting just to get backlinks.. (+ black hat tools for autoposting)

The worst is for bloggers who is just want to share they real experience with others..
All in all thanks for really good review!

  24. Other than the fact that you’ve possibly upset the one person out there who actually is named Best SEO Services, this is a great article. :) Certain things that immediately stand out as spam are easy enough to weed out, but having someone post a long piece of copied text is something to look carefully for. And like you pointed out – it’s important to get that duplicate content off of your page, no matter who put it there. Also, when it comes to comments that are profane or mean – those should be deleted without hesitation. :)

I think that all of us face this kind of issue on a regular basic, which is not only time-consuming but also annoying.

  32. I used to fill in as my name “Julius from SiteName” instead of just using Julius. I guess you have a good reason to reject comments based only on this factor. From reading the accepted comments to this blog post I see that you don’t always go by this rule. ;)

I agree that comments need to look personal but sometimes people tend to forget this and are only concerned about promoting their websites. Your comment review 5 point checklist looks like a great way to determine separate comments from real ones.

  33. Hi Anil,
I think this are good and legitimate reasons to reject a comment.
It’s a very bad sign for a blog to have spammy comments. It takes some time to moderate your comments, but I think this is well spent time. Spammy comments look bad not only for google, but for other visitors as well.

  34. These are pretty cogent points that warrant the deletion of a comment. So, yeah, you are right for deleting a comment if they fall under your aforementioned reasons because the quality of your blog is also reflected in the quality of the blog comments left behind by your readers.

  35. I hope, my comment will not get rejected LOL. Yes, there are some certain factors we have to consider while commenting, people simply write very common phrase for all the blogs like Good post, Helpful post etc which is really annoying. Thanks for your blogs I will really consider all your five points before accepting the comment on my blog.

  36. Thanks for the wonderful article. Some really informative tips out there. Being a webmaster myself I can surely understand how difficult it is for any blog owner to make his way through the million comments he gets.

People tend to forget the basic difference between providing value and spamming and most of the comments are only spam, done only to get the benefit of links which should be avoided at all costs.

  37. Blogging is an activity which has many benefits, it is one of the best techniques to earn backlinks pointing to a site through blog commenting and blog posting, it is also a kind of business to earn money for free lancers, and it also improves writing skills and thinking capacity of a blogger, as he/she has to continuously think new and improved ways to present themselves to public in a way that public gets attracted and sticked to their blogs. But, there are numerous cases where these technique is barely used for generating money or with an aim to just earn a backlink for the site.
Here in this blog you have posted exactly the similar points which are active as spamming techniques to earn a backlink. But one of the point that you mentioned here about using keywords in the name field, according to you, you tend to delete or spam those comments which are legitimate ones connected directly to the post just because they have not used their name in the name field is a bit harsh on the ones who come here for sharing their views and with a secondary aim to earn backlinks, so my suggestion to you is approve only those comments with keywords on the comment sections which are directly related to blog post discussion otherwise its a better option to delete those spammy comments.

  38. Hello there,
Yea, i do agree on all your points. Not to having a real name and adding links in the comment can make drastic to everyone and to take towards settings to not to seen them again. It can make ruthless for visitors but what is medicine here for that silly work.

I got long and lengthy comments from few bloggers few months back. I was so admired with their comments that time (who don’t love having lengthy comments?).

Later, one of my Facebook friends told me that they’re copied comments, I was admired more ;) and googled them.

No surprise.. they were all copied comments and I couldn’t do anything about it.. Since then, I’m doing the same as you’re doing when I find lengthy comments. Great post, cheers!
