Monetizing Your Blog CAN Show You The Money

Monetizing Your Blog Can Make YOU A Mega-Star!

You’ve taken the leap into “blogdom”…Hoooraay! Keep in mind the phrase spoken by Bette Davis’ character, Margo Channing, in All About Eve“Fasten your seatbelts, it’s going to be a bumpy night!”

Please don’t misunderstand. My intention is not to dissuade you from your goal to monetize your blog. In fact, my desire is quite the opposite. I’m delighted to be able to share 3 tips that can make your ride a little less bumpy!

1ne: Pen Your Passion

Don’t waste time blogging about topics that only vaguely interest you. Pen (blog) about your passion! Emotions are powerful motivators and passion transmits equally as intensely through words on a page as it does through actions, tone of voice or facial expressions. Your excitement creates a contagious enthusiasm with your audience and maximizes the likelihood of building a loyal following.

Building an engaging site that entices substantial and consistent traffic is the first crucial step in monetizing your blog. The phrase — “If you build it, they will come” — made famous by Kevin Costner’s character, Ray Kinsella, in the movie Field of Dreams does not hold true in the game of monetizing your blog! You must publish a professional blog, consistently convey valuable content, doggedly cultivate authentic connections and be desirous of giving more than you get!

2wo: Consider Including “Pay Per Click” Ads

You’ve created your niche by penning your passion and cultivated an extraordinarily large following of “fans.” Bravo! Now, it’s time to get your groove back, financially speaking, by using “pay per click” ads through Google and Yahoo.

Although these are fantastic money-makers, you shouldn’t lounge on a beach sipping a tasty beverage! Monetizing your blog using pay per click ads requires diligent follow-through. Keep a keen eye on the stats (type of ads appearing, pricing & click-through rates) and promptly make necessary adjustments.

Perhaps the ads aren’t targeted closely enough to your niche and click-through rates are suffering…be ready to make adjustments to align ads with the interests of your target audience. Click-through rates will improve when ads match the audience. Attentiveness to detail is crucial in finding your groove when monetizing your blog!

3hree: Affiliate Marketing Is A Top Gun Tool

Unlike the quote spoken by Maverick, Tom Cruise’s character in the movie Top Gun“You don’t have time to think up there. If you think, you’re dead” – implementing affiliate marketing to monetize your blog does require thought!

You must identify products/services pertinent to your niche in order to fully realize the star quality affiliate marketing offers. Consider items associated with branding or products/services that compliment who you are as well as your vision.

When your audience clicks the affiliate links and makes a purchase, you earn a commission on the sale! Choose affiliates wisely! You don’t want to ruin your impeccable reputation by aligning your blog with a less than stellar company.

Be the star of the show! Following the script and incorporating these tips will surely make your blog a blockbuster!

  2. During these difficult times it’s a must to have a source of residual income so thanks for recommending these methods. It’s always a good idea to use a blog to monetize while imparting relevant solutions. The type of content we share ultimately determines our potential to earn and succeed. Thanks for the salutary share!

    • You stated that so well. Having other sources of income is really important and coupled with sharing relevant content will only help to monetize your hard work and helping others along the way with providing good quality products and programs. Appreciate you sharing your comments today!

      • It grows wherever there is excess moisture. Mildew can grow on anything, including clothing. Removing mildew from clothes can be daunting because there is the risk of damaging the fabric. Silk is an especially fragile fabric and can be easily damaged if steps are not taken with extreme care to remove mildew. There are products that can be used to remove mildew from silk, and certain steps that need to be performed to not only remove mildew from the fabric but to kill the fungi which causes the mildew. Thanks a lot.

    • IMHO i suggest to all bloggers to improve the SEO aspect for improve the number of visits.
I think is a bit difficult to obtain money trough affiliate marketing,
on the other hand is simpler whit Pay Per Click and Pay per Impressions methods.

  3. We can do those things more well in which we are interested! in the same way , we can write on those topics much nicely in which we are interested!

  4. Not a lot of bloggers see the potential in their contents. Not a lot of them also know about how much influence they can offer to other people. Thus, they are not able to maximize profit from their blogs. This article can definitely be a game-changer for them.

    • Thank you Stacey. You are right on how so many people do not see their true potential. Blogging is a huge avenue to communicate with your audience and build attraction and sales. So I am glad that you point that out in your comments and hope it just emphasizes the importance of sticking with it, never give up and always be attentive to your readers, audience and customers.

Really appreciate you sharing your insight… have an awesome day!

  5. A great post!! The tips mentioned here are just marvelous. I certainly believe that when one person portrays his passion, the post thus formulated is a masterpiece. Affiliate marketing has become the talk of the town these days, it is a great tool to make the blog a success. Thanks for sharing these helpful tips.

    • You are welcome Aayna. I agree that portray your passion in your posts and people will feel that passion too. Connections are so important these days since there is so much out there on the internet.

Affiliate marketing is just another income source that when properly done can be very effective not only in pulling in sales but to also create and build your list for potential customers for other products your business offers.

  6. Hey Lynn these are some great actionable tips. Having great content, but also testing with PPC is a great idea. One should never leave PPC on auto-pilot. With Google making an app for both analytics and Adsense, maybe we will see an Adwords app come out so people can control their campaigns from their mobile.
Edwin recently posted..US carrier selects Openet for signalling managementMy Profile

    • Oh that would be a good idea for an Adwords app Edwin! Glad you found these tips helpful and testing with PPC really does help us to learn what works and what doesn’t but also maintains your marketing budget rather than going broke! So your advice about not leaving PPC on auto-pilot is a good one.

  7. Three points very well taken. Great article. I’d say that these three points are somehow a recipe for success if they are implemented in the correct way. Ads and affiliate marketing will work only if you PEN your passion.

  8. I understand why some people would want to monetize their blogs but don’t some bloggers just use blogging to sell their consulting services or products they have developed? The way I monetize my blog is to encourage my narrow target market to get on my mail list and/or request a consultation. I hope I am not totally missing the boat.

You have found a great way to build leads, prospects and clients! Of course you can add to your blog and add other income streams like your own products, but also affiliate products that are within your niche.

Glad you stopped by to share your experience and advice here Suzanne.

  9. Hi Lynn,

Great article, I totally agree with the first point. You should always focus on your passion and where your most knowledge is coming from, I have a technical blog which have almost the same readers that are coming back to read my articles as they are technical people too and those are really loyal to my blog and keep commenting asking for help while the other blog which is an Internet blog didn’t have the same success.

    • Thanks DiNaRa for sharing your thoughts. PPC can be tough at the beginning because there is a lot to learn and also you have to take time to test your ads and see which ones actually get good response.

Blogging is a great way to get good content out to your audience and get interaction. Setting up your blog posts with proper keywords is important. I found once you get a system that really works, blogging can start pulling in leads and customers pretty quickly.

  14. Hi Lynn,

Yes – Monetization is a great way to make money by running a website and or blog as you would have done before running a couple of ads – Affiliate networks also allows you different options in terms of the ads being displayed and the type and amount of revenue is generated by a single click and or impression.

  15. Hi Lynn brown! Really Awesome post. As we know that Everyone Want to make rich. So i think Pay per click is the great ways to make money. Affiliate marketing also great method. but i prefer only pay per click.Well thanks for sharing this information..

  16. Since Google is the biggest and baddest for ads I use them most of the time. But I’m starting to slowly switch over to some affiliate products from ClickBank. I’ve only gotten a few sales from there so far but I think those will increase over time, especially if I move to that completely.

You are so right about the whole passion thing. I am kind of a serial website creator and didn’t really concentrate on one until I found the one that I am really passionate about and that is the one that has paid off.

  17. Its important to remember that the first year you start out its going to be a slow up-hill battle. I have started many blogs and given up before I should have. Incorporating Pay-Per Click ads could get you some attention much earlier on then you would have. I have found that being active in the Stumbleupon community also gives you alot of white hat traffic.

    • Never give up has true meaning. I’m glad that you mention this Jordan. I see too many people put in the time and effort only to quit when they were on the verge of their true success. One must see each day as progress towards your goal. If you don’t see that progress, then work a bit harder the next day, but don’t ever give up…. it does take time as you point out here Jordan.

    Hi Lynn,

When it comes to monetizing a blog, my advise to all the blog owners is that “never put all your eggs in one basket”. It is always wise to channelize your income into multiple streams. The best example is Google AdSense. Some blog owners relay only on AdSense and if one fine day Google decides that you are not a good publisher, all your income is gone.

    • Couldn’t agree with you more Annetta! After the recent down turn in the U.S. real estate market, my husband and I took a big hit as most of our money was invested in homes that we built to sell. Fortunately, we got out only to have enough money to pay the banks. It was a hard lesson to learn but one that opened my eyes to diversifying even online.

Blogs are a great way to channel income. Niche blogs are becoming more popular if you understand how to set them up and market them.

Appreciate you sharing your insight on this and the reminder that even Google can still give you the slap, something to be aware of.

  19. Yea – it is interesting – I did try monetization on my blog but still not to many clicks :(
    maybe I need better content.

    • I visited your site and while I see that you are a wonderful photographer, I do not see how people can access your blog. Also, the blog post you shared talks about your wedding client. You could use the location of the event as your keyword. Writing about wedding tips, preparing for the photographer and so forth are things you could write about and can be shared with your audience.

When your blog site is more engaging and your visitors can interact, such as sharing your blog posts and images on the social sites, that is when you will see greater traffic to your site. I hope that is helpful tips.

Thank you for taking the time to stop by and share your comments.

I’m always curious to read these types of posts to see what people suggest. Image me stopping by today and you are the lovely guest blogger sharing your ideas on this subject.

I didn’t start out writing about anything I’m passionate about but I am now. I love helping people so it’s showing in my writing. I think I keep improving as time goes on.

I don’t think I’m going to go the PPC route but I am going the paid route next month. I already have some things mapped out that I’m going to implement so I know it’s a great way to go.

Of course we definitely have our faithful affiliate marketing methods. Those I continue to do every day.

  23. CPC ads are easier to integrate. Google Adsense does all the hard work in finding relevant partners.
I often find it hard to find a good affiliate partner for my site. At the moment I am only using Amazon.

    • Amazon is a huge marketplace with lots of products to promote. You might also consider Commission Junction and checking out ClickBank while just making sure the products are in line with your branding and vision of your business.

Paid ads certainly are a great way to bring more visibility to you, your business and products. But it isn’t for everyone, especially for those just starting out and not have a proper marketing budget.

Thank you Frank for sharing your comments as they are very helpful for others.

  28. Hi Lynn! Are there any particular pay per click or affiliate marketing tools you would recommend for different levels of bloggers and various types of blogs?
Dave Lucas recently posted..Search Results Are The New First ImpressionMy Profile

    • Hello Dave, while there are so many different programs and tools out there, the best advice I would give is to be sure to check them all out carefully. You want to make sure they meet your expectations, goals and your budget. Far too many new online marketers fall victim to ‘fast’ or ‘quick’ ways to get leads or build income.

If you are new to online marketing you might try using Facebook ads as you are able to set a very low daily budget and also, niche down to a very specific group of people so you can what kind of response you get. It is all about testing, testing, tweeking, changing and testing again! But when you find the winning keyword or ad that is pulling in leads, that is when you will learn what your audience is really wanting.

For those with a marketing budget, look into solo ads or coops. This is a good way to test the waters on some larger ad campaigns without breaking the bank. But know that there are no guarantees and your first, second or even third ad campaigns may fall flat. So be prepared but just never give up.

The best affiliate marketing tool is your blog. Blog consistently with attention to keywords, don’t over stuff your posts with sales pitches and you will start seeing results.
