Email lists are very important! I agree with you that people filling out a form to be put on an email list are more likely to become leads than a list of email addresses that you bought. I have list of 20,000 contacts in an email list that I accumulated over time and I also have a list of people who have filled out the form to get emails sent to them. The second list of people respond way more to emails and have been turned into sales far more often that the first list!

But it’s not free.
I think Mailchimp until a certain number of subscribers is free.

Well, Aditya,
first of all a subscriber can always unsubscribe from your list, because there is always a link to it at the end of each of your mail or Blogcast.
And then if you check the statistics of your mailing list (with Aweber you can do it, I use this), you can always check the percentage of opening of each user.
You can then decide to delete inactive users, and to clean up from time to time.
Last thing, you can send an e-mail asking who is still interested in receiving your mailing list, even if this solution is a bit drastic! ;-)
