How To Interview Your Way Into Blogosphere

Interview Your Way Into Blogosphere

As a start-up blogger you are learning probably more than you get done. When you get into things you soon find out that everything else can be perfect. You can have killer content, an amazing design, lots of things to keep a visitor stick to your site.

But all of those are worth not a single thing if people aren’t finding you, trusting you or see you as an authority within your niche.

This is not a post about traffic generating strategies but indeed a post about how you could conduct an interview with someone by using YouTube Video Interview Production to drive massive amounts of traffic back to your content.

In order to become seen as an expert within your niche, firstly you need to generate good flow of consistent traffic, no doubt about that. Next you need to prove to this traffic that you know what your talking about. You need to give them something they need. When you’ve done your homework properly you’ll already be in the right niche, having identified some loophole in a specific market you tapped into and you have a strategy on how to fill that loophole or solve the issues your target audience is dying to get answers for.

One way of doing all this, from generating insane amounts of traffic faster than most other things, giving people content that they actually want or need and then creating trust and credibility that is also better known as an authority within your specific niche, is to conduct interviews with existing experts and authorities other people are already familiar with. Especially your target audience within your niche.

What’s even more exciting is that you could do things a bit different by getting out of your comfort zone and do a YouTube Video Interview with a famous expert to keep things interesting and also to help you stand out from the crowd.

Yes, video marketing is growing at the speed of light and a lot more people previously too scared to move beyond their comfort zones are taping into this form of marketing after they see the success experts are already getting from it. The good news about this growth though is that it also grows the reach your interview will have as more and more people are going to YouTube for this kind of thing.

Benefits Of Interviewing An Expert Authority

Doing an interview with someone seen as an authority within a certain niche has many benefits. Probably the biggest one of them all is that a lot more people would more than likely be interested in your interview than if it was with someone less known. Unless of course if the newbie has just developed an alternative brand to Samsung willing to go head to head with Apple.

The other major benefit of interviewing an expert is that people would always be interested in seeing who you would interview next. They might be more than likely opting in on your newsletter, subscribing to your RSS feed or even follow you on Twitter and other social media platforms. Why? They would love to see more of what they’ve just seen. They were provided with value from other experts and chances are that you are more than likely to provide them with the same kind of value in future.

How Do I Interview An Expert?

Although the thought of contacting a famous person or an expert in any specific field may be rather daunting or intimidating to the average start-up blogger, getting to interview an expert is actually a lot easier than most would think.

When you learn a couple of things that involves interviewing an expert and carefully put them into place, I believe that getting an interview organised would be much higher on your priority list in future.

So how do you actually get an expert to agree being interviewed?

Just think about it for a second. Experts actually LOVE being interviewed! Why? Well, its added exposure to their brand. As simple as that. Having more people know their brand; there are tens and tens of all sorts of benefits in having more exposure to your personal brand, including increased traffic to your content, products or services, increased newsletter subscriptions, increased course sign-ups, increased product sales and too many more to mention. What right-minded expert wouldn’t want increases in the above? Not many; I can promise you that much.

So how did I conduct an interview with Bamidele Onibalusi from YoungPrePro.com by using YouTube Video Interview Production? You’ll be surprised at actually how easy it was…

I read an article he wrote for ThinkTraffic.net where he talked about how to get your freelancing career started as a blogger. I was inspired, hugely inspired and and started things off with designing my own “Hire Me” page and then soon afterwards thought about how he could inspire others just like me.

I simply contacted him via email, told him how he inspired me and then also briefly how I thought he could inspire a lot more like me. I told him about my idea of conducting an interview with hom by asking him a couple of questions and then doing a post on my site about it. At that stage I never even thought about using YouTube video for the project so I didn’t think about having a voice call with him for the interview, which if you can pull off, would be even more effective.

I soon after that sent him my questions and within a week had them all returned to me including a profile photo he had given me permission to use in the interview. The production of the video and slideshow I used to display the questions being asked to him then started and yes, the first thing I did when I was done, was sending him my thank you again for being willing to participate and then a link to the interview.

Next thing I received an email from him, having loved what I have done and told me about what he especially liked and he went even further to share the post with his thousands of followers on Twitter. The direct result was a huge traffic spike on that specific day to my site according to my analytics which even left the site with a more consistent flow of traffic after the excitement has eased off. Keep in mind this site of mine is just more than a month old now and gets an average of 90+ visitors per day since the interview with a current Alexa Rank of 656k at the time of this post. Not bad for me at all.

Doing an interview with an expert or authority of a specific niche, which should of course contribute to the niche you are in, opens up the world of opportunities of driving good amounts of traffic and in the end helping you achieve the goals you have for your content, whether it be any products and/or services or even just a hobby you’re offering.

I would love to hear what your thoughts are on this topic and would appreciate it of you guys could share it with the rest of us down in the comments section below.

As always, my best of writing and content marketing success to you!

  9. Hello Ruan,

This post is awesome and has a loads of information to be grasped and emulated. I do feel goose bumps at the very thought to approaching an expert for an interview. This fear is born out of respect. But, this interview option is definitely a super hit.

    Regards,

    • Yeah I know exactly what you mean, Vijayraj. The thought of approaching an expert can be somewhat intimidating especially if you think about the hundreds of other interview proposals they are probably getting, I mean what are your chances, right?

The biggest challenge is just to take a step of faith and just do it. The worst that could happen is for them to say no. Keep in mind that anyone loves exposure and chances are they will gladly accept. As long as you have well-constructed questions and as long as you won’t be wasting their time, keeping things to the point; you should be just fine! ;)

  10. Talking about my ownself, I would surely be attracted towards a post that contains an interview video with some great personality or celebrity because it is very interesting and enjoyable to dig out stuff from these people and listen to their either biased or sometimes non biased views. So this will work out a great way to stand ahead of the crowd.

  11. I think interviewing influencer bloggers can really help our site but you have to look for a perfect way to come across a better plan that will make the person really ready to do interview with you and you must also get a perfect question to ask so as to help your readers when they are reading the interview. thanks for sharing

    • I have to disagree slightly with you, Igbalaye. The biggest obstacle for most bloggers and writers that holding them back the most is trying to do things perfectly. This is time consuming and well, things won’t always be perfect. By this I don’t mean that your quality shouldn’t be top notch but the good news is, the more you do anything, the better it becomes and the more does the quality improve.

I think if you can just take the step of faith and just do it, get it done, you’ll go a lot further. I would suggest you just go have a look at other interviews that interests you. See what type of questions get asked. Throw your owns mix into things and you’re set.

When approaching the expert, just include what they have meant to you personally, what you think they could mean to others which is your motivation behind doing the interview in the first place and tell them how you plan to do it. That’s it, short and simple. No long essays that will take them hours to read through, simple and to the point, that’s it!

Good luck and thanks for taking the time to stop by!

  12. Too true, I am learning more than I’m getting done. My to do list never seems to go down as every day another obstacle gets in my way and I have to learn something new, time consuming and hopefully worth it.

  13. Good job Ruan I like the first line, learning probably more than you get done. This is true.

In my opinion, the interview is probably the most valuable piece of content that any blog can publish it is also probably the most difficult to get done. I would love to see much more interviews on all of my favorite blogs including this one.

If you could interview any blogger who would it be? What would you ask them?

I would ask Kesha from WBB,
“What action did you take or task did you complete that you never wanted to or never thought you would have to do in order to make it blogging?” In other words what did you do outside of your comfort zone to gain success?

    • Oh my…If I needed to write down the names all the experts I’d like to interview in future and the questions I’d like to ask each one of them, we’d be reading this comment for the next year. Have you managed to go have a look at the interview I conducted with freelance writer Bamidele Onibalusi from YoungPrePro.com yet?

I asked him a total of 13 questions if I remember correctly; was loads of fun although in future, if possible, I’d try and do voice/video interviews rather and see how those turn out. I think the click throughs and conversion rates would be a lot higher. All this is actually totally new to me (video production that is) and I am excited to see the results after some thorough experimentation.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts and I am honored that you found it helpful!

  14. Love the idea of interviews. This is a great way to get some different kind of content on your blog, rather then a normal blog post. People love interviews about topics on your blog, but if you think outside the box, and get a different type of interview, you can offer that interview as a guest post. Anyway great blog.
