LinkedIn Is Rapidly Growing – Are You On-Board

In case you haven’t read recent articles, LinkedIn is rapidly growing by leaps and bounds — solid and steady. So, what I want to know is…. are you on-board?

LinkedIn Now Has 175 Million Members – article by Todd Wasserman on Mashable Business

LinkedIn Rapidly Growing are you on boardIf you find yourself wondering, “Why isn’t my business growing? Why don’t I have greater visibility? Why is my business growing at a slow and steady pace rather than exploding?” — it’s time to get serious about LinkedIn.-

LinkedIn affords you the largest and most focused professional social platform on the planet. It delivers a tremendous opportunity to source connections, leads and prospects.  Exactly how should you take the leap into LinkedIn? A great technique you can implement immediately is…

Connection “Tags” – Build Your LinkedIn Lists

I’m sure you’ve heard the statement, “The money is in the list.”  LinkedIn lets you build a list almost immediately upon setting up your profile. Organizing your connections, from the onset, will not only save you time but will also enable you to engage target markets.

LinkedIn “tags” is a great tool. After accepting connection invitations, it is crucial to visit “Connections” in your LinkedIn profile and “tag” these people.

You can create lists for specific prospects, types of clients or even according to location.

“Tags” also build your lists and provide an awesome opportunity to ‘in-mail’ that particular list (tag) in order to share company information, links to videos, gain important information (go ahead…ask questions!) or anything else you might do when attempting to turn leads or connections into customers or clients.

Visit your LinkedIn profile and click on “Contacts” – this will take you to your list of connections.

  • Next, click on the link entitled “untagged.”
    -
  • Hover over the first connection, click, and the information for that contact will appear on the right side.
    -
  • Under the connections information, you will see a link entitled “Edit Tags” — click on that link.
    -
  • A list of tags will drop down. Select one or however many pertain to that contact. You can also ADD new tags too!

Be sure to “Save” the tag(s)! You can confirm that your contact was tagged by viewing “All Connections” to ensure the numbers have increased. Next, check to ensure your “untagged” numbers have decreased.

After completing the above steps, you are now ready to begin connecting with contacts within the specific lists you created through utilizing “tags.”

This is just one of the many features that LinkedIn offers to almost make your profile a custom business website.  Take some time and check out how ‘tagging’ your connections can be help you start prospecting for leads, building your list and take advantage of LinkedIn rapidly growing to help your business grow too.  Easily build and  run your ecommerce website with Shopify.

    • Great point Fatima, that LinkedIn is a source for quick response from other professionals. I believe it is because it is so much more focused on one thing, business. And that in itself makes LinkedIn a wise choice especially for small businesses, marketers and entrepreneurs.

Although all social media sites are of great importance for a business to boost in the market, but for me i prefer LinkedIn over them all.It gives direct exposure of a business to the related business and makes a good relationship among them.

    • I couldn’t agree with you more Aditya! LinkedIn is a great direct source for other business people, so LinkedIn is a platform I focus more attention on. However, because my audience is on some of the other social sites being active there is critical as well.

It is that balance online marketers and business owners have a hard time as it can be overwhelming managing so many sites. Hence, I enjoy using HootSuite which also allows me to manage my LinkedIn account at the same time.

Appreciate you sharing your insight on this topic Aditya. Glad you stopped by!

    • As a blogger Tauseef, LinkedIn is an awesome way to build visibility. The search engines love LinkedIn, so having a good profile with proper keywords is more important than some of the other social site profiles.

From there I would highly suggest you get into a few groups that relate to you and your industry, then you can comment, get into discussions and then start your own discussions within the group by sharing your posts or other information.

It is the best way I have built my consulting business, getting quality leads and clients. Good luck, hope you will give a go!

  6. LinkedIn is a great tool which can really help in business. I have signed up with the network and I am using it, but I don’t consider it to be so helpful in my professional life. I have never thought about it. May be I should reconsider my attitude to the system.

    • It is a great way to showcase you as a professional DiNaRa. Just be sure your LinkedIn profile is completed properly with the keywords. Some make the mistake of setting up like a resume, while that is ok, it is better to showcase what you provide to others, how you can help or answer and solve problems that people are looking for solutions.

It is an awesome communication tool so I am sure if you revisit LinkedIn you can find many ways to utilize it best for you and your profession.

  7. Yes, LinkedIn is fast gaining attention in the world of social media because most of the online population is connected to each other through this networking site. It provides easy access to employment whether it is for the sake of the employer or the employee. I am soon going to join LinkedIn.

    • Good to hear Thomas, you will be happy once you get your LinkedIn profile up and then you can start seeing how you soon will be building connections. Just be sure you use your proper keywords, don’t come off as too sales pitchy, showcase what you can do to help others and then even join a couple of groups which will really jump start your visibility and start making connections. Good luck and have fun with it!

  13. Hi Lynn:
Great post! While I do have my profile completed on LinkedIn, I haven’t utilized the site to its fullest potential. After reading your tips/advice, I plan to follow your directions & create tags. I do like the professional aspect of LinkedIn versus Facebook. Perhaps it’s just my slant, but I feel Facebook to be a bit more social-based & LinkedIn to be geared towards the professional community. I do enjoy the “groups” aspect of LinkedIn. It provides a great way to network, share information and connect with others of like minds. Thanks for providing clear step-by-step instructions on creating tags and sharing the info!

  14. I have almost 400 connections on LinkedIn and I am a part of many groups relating to web design and SEO. Must say LI is one of the best social media platforms out there. I find it much much better than FB and the return on time invested is really good. Infact, I have been able to get a lot of business via networking via LI.

  17. Hi Lynn,

Yes – Linkedin is busy growing phenomenally. And if you use social media for business this is one channels you can’t afford not to be present on.

  18. Thats really amazing otherwise i don’t look content like this but this one drawn me.

  19. Hi Lynn,
Thanks very interesting post. I’m like the above person called “Rob”. I have joined all this different types of communities but have found facebook to work best.
There is also the time aspect to it. I spend about 2 hours each day on facebook for work related tasks and a bit private too. It is simply way to time consuming for me do the same thing with twitter, fb, linkedin pinterest etc. I recently heard there are social bookmark manager software that allows you to manage all your social sites through one platform. Is that anything you have used and can recommend and do you have any experience with it?

    Thank you
Clair Anderson recently posted..Coming Soon!My Profile

    • One thing you have discovered Clair is that Facebook is working for you and your business. This is the number one issue with most business owners and marketers. The don’t know which tools help and bring results for their specific business or industry,

Social media isn’t a ‘one size fits all’. So knowing what sites can effectively reach your audience and produce results is huge hurdle you got over. However, I always suggest that your business keep testing other avenue either with social media or any offline opportunities to produce even more and greater reach for increasing your income and profits.

If time is something you don’t have, then it is time to have a team that has the time to share tweets, blog posts, articles, videos and so forth. I do use HootSuite for managing Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn. But I also have a VA that manages updating my status, blog posts and my email. when your business grows, that is when you consider building a team so you have the time to do the things in your business that will create more income and profits.

Hope that will help and so glad that you stopped by to share your thoughts and comments.

  20. I have a linked in account, but to be honest haven’t really used it. I have 20 or so connections but maybe it’s time to get going on it and time to diversify! I’m also signed up for twitter which I joined about 2 years ago but I haven’t got in to it, although facebook had prooved a good marketing tool for me as I put an image up about once a week, which I find is optimum for likes and comments. Anyway cheers again, was looking for advice on how to use linked in to boost my business and you’ve helped Lynn :)

    • Thanks Rob for your comments. I have to say your site has some beautiful images. Your photography is awesome. LinkedIn is a great way to connect with people within your area, as you can sign up with groups about photography and weddings. It increases your visibility and searchability when your LinkedIn profile is properly optimized. Which means using your keywords consistently throughout your profile.

I’m glad to hear you might give LinkedIn another look. I have a rule of thumb I call the 30/30 Plan … 30 minutes in the morning and 30 minutes in late afternoon to visit your social sites, answer messages, tweets, get into some discussions on LinkedIn and things like that. If you add this to your daily tasks, you will see more activity and connections.

Glad you stopped by and much success to you!

  22. LinkedIn isn’t just for HR professionals or people looking for jobs. It’s become an important place to network and learn about a business. If a potential business partner doesn’t have a LinkedIn profile, it’s seen as unprofessional today.

  23. Nice to see you here Lynn!

This sure is an informative post! Though I am on LinkedIn but I had absolutely no idea about tags and how we can edit them to make our task much easier. :)

I do have my own lists and people within those, but yes, the untagged ones were lying there and I just headed over and did just as you mentioned.

Thanks for sharing this useful piece of information with all of us. :)

    • Thank you Lakshmi for sharing your comments. Glad you are finding LinkedIn to be a wonderful resource for information and networking. I’m glad you will be ‘tagging’ your connections. Soon you will be able to send out inmail messages to each ‘tagged’ group, remember to keep the information interesting and entertaining and if you are not in sales pitch mode, you will see some really great results.

    • As other social sites continue to grow, LinkedIn has proven to grow at a consistent steady pace and it is a place where all the business people hang out. But guess what… they are consumers too. They have problems that need solving, they are looking for things to better their lives and also looking for connections to build their business.

So I believe Bhushan that the lists you create on LinkedIn through your ‘tags’ are very valuable. I don’t suggest you pitch your programs and products, but instead share interesting and entertaining information that will keep you in front. Its all about visibility.
