The Close Relation Between Blogging & Freelance Writing

The Close Relation Between Blogging & Freelance Writing

Designed by HighTechNovation.com

I trust that by reading this post you are a blogger or at least have an interest in blogging?  Blogging these days is an essential tool in the toolbox of most online entrepreneurs and businesses.

We use blogging as a platform to create trust and credibility, to build quality relationships with the targeted traffic that you drive to your content.

Whether you blog as a hobby with a personal interest to share it with the world or whether you are a serial blogpreneur offering your professional products or services to anyone interested, blogging is your business and the tool you can’t live without.

Blogging Is A Form Of Writing

Being successful as a blogger you need good writing skills, excellent language and communication skills and sure, you need to come up with regular content ideas. You also need to be able to write for an audience in order to create interest by firstly identifying a need or loophole within a certain market or niche, creating or duplicating a solution or answer to that need, offer your solution to the target audience in need of your “answer” and then convince them how your solution will benefit them and satisfy their need.

The point I am trying to make is that when you blog for a living or even when you blog as a hobby, sharing experiences or knowledge with the world, writing has to be part of your interests or else you wouldn’t be doing it, right? You love to communicate. So if you are looking to create an income by blogging, did you realize or think about the fact that you can write for a living too?

If you are looking to create income streams from blogging and you are already writing (seeing you are responsible for the content on your site), have you ever considered offering your writing services to others by actually charging them for it?

Freelance Writing = Offering Professional Writing Services At A Fee

Think about it for a second. You could be offering professional writing services to either your existing clients or followers or you could offer your services to any new prospects and clients, at a rate which you decide on, market related and reasonable of course. You don’t need any other skills or resources other than what you already have, seeing you are a blogger/writer of your own professional copy already.

All you need to do is attract clients and then (the same as with blogging) show them how you can be of assistance to them with your writing skills and services. That’s it. That’s all you need to do.

So How Can You Promote Or Offer Professional Writing Services To Anyone?

I can hear you all asking me now how on earth are you going to promote that you have writing skills that could come in handy to anyone looking to hire an expert on the subject. It’s actually very simple. Use your existing number one tool: your blog.

That’s right. All you need to do is tell people about your skills and writing services by using your current blog. When you write new articles, include a “P.S.” at the end of your posts mentioning it to them. Just tell people you offer professional writing services in any way you want on your site, banners, graphics or whichever you prefer.

I recently read an article by Bamidele Onibalusi from YoungPrePro.com he wrote for Corbett Barr from ThinkTraffic.net in which he encouraged me to set up my own “Hire Me” page (link to sample in previous paragraph) on my blog in which I can offer my writing services to others as a freelance writer. I immediately went and set it up.

Another way to advertise your writing services is by commenting on related writing blogs. Speak about experiences you’ve had as a writer. All it takes is to sparkle the interest of that one person and you might land yourself a gig. A sure-fire way of even further advertising your services as a freelance writer is of course guest posting on related blogs. Follow their guest posting guidelines, and once you’ve done what it takes and get approved for your articles, include the service offering in your author bio. It’s really that simple.

In the meantime you just keep on doing what you’ve been doing all along. Write killer content for whichever destination you choose and keep gaining followers by building trust and credibility and creating meaningful relationships in the process. The interest will follow, sooner or later.

I’d absolutely love to hear what you guys think and even some of your own experiences would be very welcome in the comments section below.

As always, my best of writing and blogging success to you!

  16. Hello, i like your post. It gave me some interesting facts, even though i am actually not a blogger myself.
But i know that it takes serious hard work and dedication in order to make a living from internet business.. may it be blogging, niche microsites or whatelse you can think of. Personally, i can see myself writing for pleasure in the future more than trying to be professional with it.

    • Indeed I would highly recommend you do, Pavel! It would be one of the most important pages on your site as a freelance writer, especially if you’ve already got a decent following, unlike me who just started this new site just more than two weeks ago. I had to start from scratch again. Getting about 80 visitors per day at the moment so clearly things are coming along nicely. :)

All the best of success to you and be sure to check out my interview I have just done with Bamidele Onibalusi if you haven’t already! I think you might appreciate it ;)

  19. Great points Ruan..I’m also a freelance writer myself and I think I can relate to all these points.

I first started out providing my services on sites like freelancer.com but soon realized no one appreciates your value on such sites. So that’s when I started my own blog and included a “hire me” page. I actually started my blog after reading Bamidele’s ebook. My value more than tripled after that since potential clients appreciate the work I do on my blog.

Freelance writing skills are a great advantage for a blogger since you already posses the ability to constantly produce content.

A blog also allows a freelancer to widen his/her revenue sources. For instance, I’m now making some cash by promoting affiliate products and displaying ads on my blog.

My point is basically, freelance writing and blogging make a great combination.

Thanks for the great write up.

    • Norbert, I absolutely loved reading your comment man! How cool is it that another writer appreciates what you have written!

I agree on freelance writing skills being a huge advantage to a blogger and I think the most important aspect of that is that you already have experience writing for an audience and not for yourself, as is the case with most start-up bloggers. Soon after starting up they learn that your audience has very specific needs and requirements and it is your job as a blogger to fulfill in those needs.

For me it was exactly the other way around. I became a freelance writer only after having some experience writing for blogs but touch wood, I found some incredible people willing to teach anyone everything they know. Although my new site is just more than two weeks old, I am sure that within a reasonable time and after creating good trust and credibility, it will become my number one focus.

I love the idea that one can create multiple income streams with blogging and what I love about writing is that your writing creates the opportunities to generate income. People see that and then present you with them. It just enhances your chances to growth.

Thanks again for stopping by my friend and I really appreciated your input. If you haven’t already, I’m sure you’d love to watch the interview I did with Bamidele; would love to hear your thoughts on that if you will :)

      To your success!

  20. I blog to educate people on the software and services that we offer. However, that does not mean that I do not enjoy blogging. I have come to like writing blogs and the appreciate the patience and quality writing skills needed to be a good blogger/communicator. I started my own blog in the meantime, but have not had enough time to dedicate to the brainstorming process. Most of my time is spent coming up with business blogs!

Blogging helped me to to discover hidden talents and my passion for writing. Blogging has improved my skills and also helped me develop highly valuable relationships with people I look up to for inspiration.

All the best of success with your projects and also thank you for sharing your thoughts and experiences!

  22. Having a blog is indeed an added way to increase your visibility as a content writer. Although would take a certain time to raise a blog till it would become the main source of new contracts, in the end it would worth all the effort. For the moment I do not have a personal blog and I am still writing content for others and the main revenue sources come from trust and classic referrals by spread word. Upgrading from a writer freelancer to a professional blogger would bring in the scene the need of the online marketing understanding. Anyway it is necessary to make this step and put the content writing in its proper place. In fact is the place where all this job variation have started. Calling it content creating, guest posting, blog commenting every aspect of today writing is possible thanks to the great development of the internet building.

    • Agreed! The main purpose of this post was to show others that the transition from one to another, blogger or writer is not all that huge and difficult as many would think. Of course when blogging, marketing, optimization and all the other nice goodies needs to be added but even that’s not a too difficult task. The single one factor that holds far too many back in my opinion is time.

Once you decide to make the time for blogging, the results will follow, when persistence is added. You don’t have to be perfect, in fact “perfect syndrome” is what holds many other from starting too; again, far too many in my opinion.

Thanks for stopping by and sharing your thoughts; be sure to check out my interview I just did on my site. I’m sure you’ll take something good from that!

Richard recently posted..(Car Detailing) Restoring Faded HeadlightsMy Profile

    • Hi Richard,

I agree that for myself and many other highly successful bloggers our blogs are simply a platform to create the “setting” if you will where you can build high quality trust relationships and trust by sharing your knowledge and experience.

Your blog should ALWAYS be about to help others and be to them, not what you think they’ll be interested in. Let them tell you what they want. This can be done through thorough research on topics and discussions mostly found everywhere you go online.

Thnaks for stopping by, hope you got at least something of value from it! :)

  28. It is up to everyone to keep a blog and write there. Some people write for business and the other write for pleasure. I still write mostly for pleasure and to support my own site, although I have tried guest blogging some times. In order to become professional I need more time for it, which I don’t have right now
