5 Tips to Use Google+ to Drive Traffic to Your Blogs

google_logo

Although Google Plus doesn’t have as many users as Facebook and Twitter have right now, you shouldn’t miss the opportunity to attract visitors to your blogs or websites on this social media site that is heavily developed by thousands of Google engineers. Who knows one day Google Plus might overtake Facebook as the most popular social networking site?

Here are 5 tips that could drive traffic to your blog from Google Plus.

1. Engage With People Frequently

If you want people to pay attention to your Google+ profile, it is vital that you communicate. You may receive a number of messages during the course of a week; should you choose to ignore them, issues may come to light. To ensure that you can answer as many as possible, find time each day to read. You do not have to write out several paragraphs; however, some effort needs to be put forth.

2. Research and Utilize the Right Keywords

Some people use keywords to help their Google+ webpage show up in search engine results. If you wish to do this, do the proper research. You need to ensure that the keywords used apply to what your account and website focuses on. Do not be afraid to experiment. It may take some time before you find keywords that are appropriate and fitting; it is worth the effort in the long run.

3. Post Videos and Pictures

In order to garner interest in your online profile, post pictures or videos often. Some people do not like Google+ pages that only discuss what a person does during the course of a day. If you want people to stick around and visit your blog, make sure that you post items that are interactive. A person may become interested in your blog if a video that describes the subject of the blog shows up.

4. Add a Link to Your Blog

Though this step should be obvious, a number of individuals fail to link to their website; this is a poor mistake. If you want people to become interested in your blog, ensure that you link to it as soon as possible. Post the link in a prominent spot; should you place the link at the bottom of the Google+ page people may be unable to see it. Mention that a link to your blog is available to keep people interested. Once the link is in place, you do not need to move it.

5. Update Your Profile and Be Consistent

The tips located above do not mean a lot if you do not update your profile. If it has been several months since your last update, a person may assume that the website is inactive. You can write a few sentences or a few paragraphs; so long as you show that you are updating, you should be OK.

  15. it would actually be a better practice if bloggers and web content creators were actually setting up their RSS feeds in Google feed burner, and then activating the “PingShot” feature, so that they can generally get traffic after automatically ping search engines and web directories. In addition, people can also get traffic to their content outside of “Facebook’s promote your post feature,” by way of writing and submitting unique articles and submitting to article directories on the World Wide Web. Paying for online advertising is almost worthless nowadays, as there’s many unique and meaningful ways to alternative online advertising.

One of the things I’ve really liked about G+ over Facebook is that, like Twitter, you can tag other people into your posts, which will eventually get their attention. I admit that the progress is slow, but so far, it’s been one of the places where I have been able to start having a connection with those people that matter as far as blogging is concerned.

  29. Great post, and rather timely. I have had a Google+ account for a while now and still find it quite difficult to get to grips with. Your point number 5 about consistency is the key to building relationships I think.

I follow several circles and have been included in other circles but my posts seem to get very little reaction most of the time despite commenting on others posts and adding +1s.

I will certainly keep trying with Google+ because i am sure it is here to stay and will no doubt become a bigger player within the social network arena. Also I understand that Google are now incorporating +1 results into their search algorithm so perseverance should offer long term benefit.

    Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

  33. I have tried to connect on Google Plus but the interaction is so low. People in the travel industry do not seem to have embrace as much as other niches. Photographers love it but freely admit, they receive very little traffic from it.

  34. Number 1 and number 5 are really important. If you do not update your profile consistently and engage with others frequently, then you won’t be driving as much traffic to your blog as you need!
Alan recently posted..A beginners guide to planning a project with Primavera P6.My Profile

    • Definitely true. Social media is no longer about having an account, but about actually being SOCIAL with your accounts. For better or worse today’s web goer now carries an expectation that your accounts will be both as up to date as possible, and fully active, with the ability to communicate and expect a real response. If you’ve got that, you’ll attract new viewers and keep them engaged much longer.

  35. Video and photos are definitely one of the bigger ones. It ads a lot of interest because G+ pages can be pretty boring without them.

  36. Great tips! I try to get some traffic from G+ but I had no luck so far. I keep posting pictures and other content on my page and I share a link to it on my blog and across other social media but so far I haven’t seen much results. G+ is pretty weak when compared to the traffic i get form Facebook, Twitter or even Pinterest or Flickr

  37. It can be tough to really get G+ going, since I feel like the interaction rate is really low. I had a profile in the past and 200+ people had me in their circles, but I would only get a couple +1s, an occasional comment, and no real clicks on anything.

I ended up closing that one out a while back, but opened a new one recently. I feel like it’s an important profile to have, but I prefer Twitter over anything by a longshot.

    Thanks for the post!

    • I second you, Gabe. I’ve experienced exactly the same. The most important thing, as Alan and Paul say, is the rate of your activity and connectivity. However, the value of Google +1s cannot be overlooked because they also contribute to your rankings in Google, I believe.
Thanks for the post and the opportunity to discuss it, kensongoo!

  38. Thanks for your comment. I dont think that Google+ grows bigger than Facebook. But we will see one day… ;-)

  39. I still need to get a grip on Google+, I use it but it seems more of a chore than an actual useful tool. :-(
