Unleash The Power Of Your Blog In Your Resume

Finding a job is not easy and in order to set you apart from the crowd, your blog plays a crucial role. Your blog could help you to show off your writing power, creativity, and professionalism and also demonstrate your online social networking capabilities.

If you are wondering: How could social networking help me in my job?  then you should note that corporates today not only focus on your score and academics but rather your overall personality.  A blog with a good rank and content would immediately lead to a positive impact in the recruiters mind about your ability to socialize and adjust to new working environment.

It’s not about finding a job only, a blog could improve your score/points in GRE & GMAT profiles, where it’s not just about scoring high but rather looking for extra capabilities too in a person. Many students and professionals mention their blog, guest posts and articles on magazines and newspapers in order to impress with their writing skills.

Tips To Improve Your Blog For Your Profile

1. Design it Right:

The first look of your blog would matter significantly to your recruiter. Hence, give special attention to design of your blog. The first thing to work upon is the layout of your blog. If you are in creative field like scripting, Website Content and Designing etc. then you can innovate as much you like. Make your blog as different as possible. Make sure you display your strengths in your site.

For example, you could show off your Photography skills in your site apart from creating a good design. You could use latest HTML5 or CSS for development. You could also focus on your YouTube channel where you might have done lot of good video editing.

If you are into Technical field, keep your blog design simple and professional. Flying Kites or colorful website would rather give an amateur look to your site. Simple & Elegant is beautiful. Choose right color combinations for your blog.

2. Work on your “About” Page

The About Page would probably be the next stop when someone is looking forward to know more about you. This is the time you can mention your blog related achievements & revenues. Give all the statistic’s that is needed in order to hit the Bulls eye. Mention your achievements, your social profile, the work you have done, how long have you been in blogging, any particular sites you are associated with, some conferences you may have attended, companies who may have sponsored your website and your links with various other companies.

These all things would highlight your marketing strengths. It’s particularly valuable for a marketing profile or GMAT profile.

3. Post Your Resume

Make sure it’s easy to find out your Resume on your blog. It’s very common for people to like someone’s work on the internet and hire the same person or give some related project accordingly. Your Resume would be able to display all your academic details, profile and contact information to reach you conveniently.

4. Make a Separate Portfolio Page

Make separate Portfolio page which could contain information about all your previous work and projects you have handled. You can give details about complexity of work you have done. Categorize the things properly so that it is relatively easy to find the work in which any recruiter might be particularly interested in. You could highlight some website designs you have made and give links to the same. For developer, full description about any software design or Application could be given. You could mention the platform you worked upon and any new Research Papers or White papers you may have written.

NOTE: Always give links to anything you mention on this page so that live demonstration or full details of the work could be looked upon.

5. Networking & More Networking

The more your spread information about your blog the more it’s likely for people and recruiters to reach you. Share and spread the news about your site on social networking platforms. Know more people, connect & reach more customers using the power of internet.

Blogging is tough and you deserve to get paid for your hard work you have invested on your blog. I hope these guidelines could help you find the perfect job. Good luck!!

  12. a blog is pretty much nothing more than an online resume professional work and Internet marketing activities. People should rely more on Internet marketing to earn a full-time living, rather than using it as a tool for job hunting. Yes, having a free blog is a good thing to have, when learning about Internet marketing and starting from scratch. However, there’s more money to be made on the World Wide Web, versus working a traditional day job. don’t you believe so ? :-)

  15. Hi Ankur

Yes ! I do agree. Being active in Social Media Channels and same niche sites helps to create an authoritative profile for yourself. Especially if you link your Social Profiles with each other by way of Avatar (Gravatar I’ve found is excellent for this). By doing so You will be easily found if and when searched for by an potential employee – and this might just put you ahead of some of the other candidates. Having a profile online that’s easily found-able has a lot of advantages – weather you’re actively looking for work or not.

I completely agree with you, In my own previous experiences, i’ve started to notice that a lot of companies could almost care less about your academic background, but care more about your overall personality.

  19. There are several benefits of blogging. Whether you want to use it for professional benefits, academic benefits or business benefits, a blog can be of great help. I completely agree with your idea of establishing or building a solid profile via blogging.
