I know that you are probably doing email marketing right now if you’re actively building a list.
By now you should have understood that building a relationship with the list is essential to making money from it.
The money is in the “relationship” with the list. You’ve heard this phrase a hundred times already.
Well, email marketing has changed a little bit, you have to make little tweaks to how you prepare and write your emails if you want to maximize profits.
The style has changed from business style to a friend style.
The gurus predicted it way back in something like 2004, but now we all need to make the adjustments or else we will be out of business.
Mail More Often
A completely simple concept to understand, yet requires a little work to do.
But that’s what the marketplace demands.
You should email your subscribers at least 3 times a week. Each of these emails should contain entertainment, your own personality and help solve their problems.
Yes, there are some people who will mail you often, like every single day, but oftentimes they only promote you something …without giving you free information.
Always give the reader something of high value for free before promoting them something.
Every time you promote something, their trust in you diminishes. You can keep the trust to an even level if you add value to their lives.
Include More Personality
It’s the end of business-like email marketing. The corporate style of emailing is over.
Today, you should focus much more on being their friend. Treat your subscribers as if they were your friends, and they should be.
You’ll make much more money from people that like you than from people that don’t quite like you.
It’s one of the R. Cialdini’s principles. Check him out.
What you want to do is write entertainingly and interestingly. It’s best if you can somehow include your own personality.
The teachers don’t make the most money, but the entertainers do.
That’s what I want you to think about.
Make People Click Less
There’s a myth, which is especially false today, that you need to train your subscribers to click.
Well, the ugly truth is that we all have attention deficit these days. We like to hop from one page to another in just a few short minutes.
And we become bored very quickly, even if the content is pretty good. Even if it’s in a video format or very engaging.
Basically, if it takes more than a couple of minutes for the person to digest your content, then you’re at risk that they will leave your page.
Therefore, it can be hard for us marketers to create compelling content which is consumable in a short time span.
Include the article in your email if you can, don’t make them work to get to read your article.
When they have to click 4 times to read your article or watch your video, then it is a bad idea.
You need to test these email tips out for yourself. Testing is the mother of success.

3 very excellent keys in email marketing. I am a fan of keeping the e-mails on a personal tone/level, like you suggest. I also agree that you can’t just send promotional material, there has to be some content, some reason for the reader to become engaged. Without content, your business may find its e-mails in the spam bin. I’ve tried to avoid this when sending e-mails for marketing to our mobile storage container customers.

The advertising agency I spoke to told me a little bit about email marketing, but I wasn’t sure if it was right for my air conditioning business. I’ve been thinking more and more about it, and thought I might try it out, but when it came time to actually compose an e-mail I had no idea where to start. This article was definitely a big help and I appreciate it. Thank you for sharing.

The fact about corporate marketing coming to an end is so true! Corporate is boring on purpose – but when your writing or promoting something that they don’t HAVE to read – you need to draw them in somehow right?
Great pointers

i have become more wiser about how to make promotional email that does not irritate the target audience while we are mailing them . thanks for the great post
Sadly my inbox is flooded with marketing emails from companies I’ve previously purchased a product with – it seemed to make no difference that I’d requested “no newsletter” during the shopping cart process. I’d have to say I’ve been binned every single one of these emails. My advice would probably to devise a marketing email which doesn’t appear to be a marketing email.
Thank you Very useful tips. I liked the idea no (2) “include More Personality”. Rightly said, the era of mailing in corporate style has gone. Today, businesses need to be friend with their subscribers and this way they better treat them, better get in touch, better understand each other, and help one another. Keep up great writing….Thanks once again

I know that you are probably doing Image email marketing right now if you’re actively building a list.
Based on what you said about not having to click too much, do you think i should just include the article in the body of the email or is one click ok?
Great tips, I will be using a lot of these tips in the future.

Thanks for the tips Ray. I don’t know how effective email marketing is anymore because people have this negative associations with promotional emails. You have to be really subtle in your efforts to promote/sell something otherwise people will see right through that and get you blocked.

Absolutely true, sometimes it happens like; visitor takes much more time to understand the content easily if you don’t create your landing page attractive, no matter how much time you’ve invested to write that content. Some people get bored quickly with that, so try to be more in more simple way in email marketing.

Hi, Ray
When you say: Make People Click Less
That’s what I pay a conscious effort to do, the attention span of internet users is low so if you can avoid them clicking a hundred different things then they will have a better user experience and will likely return again to your blog again.
Talking about clicking I hate those full page ads, click here to continue..
Grrrrrrrrrr!
