Competition for the attention of blog readers is high; bloggers are continually looking for new ways to increase their number of subscribers.
Fortunately, there are afew little tricks you can use to gain an advantage over your competitors.
Here are 5 effective strategies for increasing subscribers to your blog
1. Run regular competitions
Competitions are always popular with readers, especially if the prize is something
related to the topic of your blog. One-off competitions will bring in the readers, but
not necessarily new subscribers. You need to give readers a reason to subscribe to
your blog; make it clear that there will be more competitions at a later date, and that
they can be kept informed by subscribing. Competition prizes don’t have to cost a
lot of money; you could team-up with a larger company, and get them to provide the
prize in return for some free advertising.
2. Hand out free e-books
Write an e-book related to the topic of your blog, including a small bio and a link.
Offer the book for free download on freebie sites, free e-book directories, and
anywhere else you can think of. Ask other bloggers if they would like to offer free
copies of your book on their blog; most bloggers are on the lookout for new content,
especially if it’s free. Allow people to redistribute your book wherever they see fit,
providing they don’t remove the link to your blog.
3. Tweet regularly
Twitter has become a highly effective marketing tool, and a great way to build
relationships with other Twitter users. If you provide regular, interesting tweets
related to the topic of your blog, your Twitter followers are more likely to consider
subscribing to your blog. Provide links to interesting articles and related news items,
and keep followers updated on your blog posts. Avoid spamming or posting unrelated
content.
4. Offer an incentive
Offer a free gift or special offer to new subscribers. Offering free reports, e-books, or
software downloads to new subscribers is an effective way to get people to sign-up.
You could also provide ‘subscriber only’ special offers, such as money-off coupons
or free trials of a product or service. Team up with a larger company to find discounts
and special deals to offer to your subscribers.
5. Join forces with other bloggers
Find other bloggers with a similar goal to your own, and promote each other on your
respective blogs. This could be in the form of guest posts, reciprocal links, blog
reviews, or even just commenting on each others posts. Follow each other on Twitter,
and retweet interesting content from each others blogs. By endorsing each other in
this way, you can dramatically increase the number of subscribers to your blog.
Implementing these strategies will help you see a tremendous response to your blog.
Getting the traffic to your blog is key but also you want to turn those visitors into
connections, contacts and of course, paying customers!

However, isn’t Twitter less effective when it comes to traffic. Social Media CTR is a bit low and unless your tweets are retweeted a lot!

But if you are only tweeting links to your promotions or products, people tire of that. So keeping tweets always interesting and engaging is key.

The Free eBook idea is a great one. Even if you have to buy those PLR ebooks that you’re allowed to give away for free. My friend who owns an investment blog does that all of the time – he finds great value PLR books for $3-$4 and if the content is good he just buys them and gives them the his subscribers. He says that it’s a great way to keep them feeling valued whilst also providing them with a ‘thank you’ for visiting his site all the time. Great idea I thought.

These are wonderful techniques. I tried some of them and I assure you that they really work. It will really increase the number of subscribers on your site significantly. But these are simple to apply but difficult to maintain. They need to be regularly monitored. So be ready to be very busy. Hi Lynn excellent post, no 5 is the one I have implemented the most, I write regularly now for a few blogs and the traffic to ours has increased, one thing we have done that has got us more subscribers is add password protected posts, to get the password people need to sign up, they also get un published information as a newsletter. People seem to want to read the password protected stuff. It isn’t like a paid for membership, anyone can get a password but I think people are curious as to what is password protected :-)

Yes – If there is two things that can make for increasing your followers. It’s free and promotional stuff (even if it’s in the form of advice) and being Social. People like free stuff – But in order to know about the free stuff you are giving a way you must have traffic following to your website. This has been a consistent problem for me since the day I started my company blog! I have countless articles with incredibly useful information pertaining to marketing for all types of businesses and I just can’t seem to increase the number of readers! I have been paining myself to develop new ways to engage readers aside from simply having good content. One of the breakthroughs that I have had is closely related to the e-book that you referenced. What I have been doing is offering a “user manual” for followers and fans of my business pages. I run a video marketing company and give awesome pointers and “how-to’s” through the user manuals to help people become great video markers. Hope this adds something to the conversation! I think if you remember to be ‘social’ and encourage people to visit your blog, that will give them the chance to see you and your site. But I did notice on your site that in the About box for Mr. Competition you haven’t added anything about you.

Then one day I attended a class on twitter conducted by an expert in my city and then realized that I was not using twitter the way it should be used.
