6 Types of Web Hosting Plans: Prevailing in Cut Throat Competition

www.1and1.comThere are different types of web hosting plans for businesses to choose from and while this is the case, a large number are often lost to choice when it comes to settling down with one. For the purpose of ensuring that you have all the necessary information needed to make an informed choice, it is important to get educated about the different types of web hosting plans available and basically, these include the following.

1. Shared Hosting

Just as the name suggests, this simply means that the hosting is shared. Your website in this case, is placed on the same server as other websites. In this case, you get to share the costs and this is seen as one of the major benefit of such a setup. However, with this, you are also placed at the mercy of websites you share the server with and this can drag your business behind.

2. Reseller Hosting

This is a shared account that comes with some extra tools that make it possible to resell the hosting space. In this case, you get more control through the control panel for Web Host Manager, billing software that makes it easy to invoice clients and other additional perks. Essentially, some of these perks include the following.

  • Technical support
  • Private name server
  • Free website templates

3. Dedicated Server

In this case, it means that you get to rent a server from the hosting company and you can have full control over it and this is known as root permission. The price of dedicated services tends to be costly though and while this is the case, the benefits are numerous as well.

4. Virtual Private Server

This is also known as VPS and in this case, one physical server shared among many people though it acts as multiple, separate servers. This is seen as the steeping stone between getting a dedicated machine and shared hosting. In VPS, you also share hardware resources and while this is the case the computing resources are also awarded a dedicated slice. This is seen as an ideal way of ensuring you don’t have to deal with the costs of getting a dedicated server while at the same time ensuring that other websites do not bring your website down.

5. Collocation

When you collocate, it means that the data center rents you rack space and you bring in personal server hardware. They in turn provide cooling, power, physical security and internet uplink. In a nutshell, this type of web hosting plan means that you are responsible for your data storage, backup procedures and server software and in the event your hardware fails, you are also responsible for replacing it.

6. Cloud Hosting or Grid

This refers to new web hosting technology in which hundreds of separate servers are known to work together giving them the look of one giant server. In this case, as the business needs grow the hosting company is able to add more commodity software thus creating a larger cloud or grid.

  21. Web hosting is a tricky business. It is a pain to move your hosting accounts around so I rather stay with the same one for now. Until someone proves their are much better, I plan to stay with shared hosting. Although, I have heard that dedicated hosting is faster, but I can not afford that right now.

    • If you are unable to afford dedicated one then you should go with shared as this will help you maintain your work and it will move slowly towards success. One’s your site gain traffic and readers move it to dedicated one before it becomes late.

  22. I agree with those that have said that dedicated hosting is a little expensive (Although great if you are running multiple profitable sites). Cloud hosting seems to be a good happy medium between dedicated and shared hosting if you have the traffic.

  23. Shared hosting will work fine if you don’t get heaps of traffic just yet. Once your site begins to mature, and your new onslaught of web traffic threatens to sink your current hosting, a dedicated server (or at least a VPS) is crucial for your website or blog. Notice all the huge sites out there run on dedicated servers? Not a coincidence.

    • Its not like we should go with shared hosting in starting days and then turned to dedicated one, it’s like we should start with such hosting from day one and then should move with them only.

  24. dedicated hosting is somewhere a little bit costly but it is very helpful and useful for all of us as it always provides the best 24/7 services and that’s why many peoples doesn’t care about a little bit of money and choose only services
