The Major Types of Updates your Social Media Profile Should Have

social media updatesGiven that social media is among the most lucrative means of business promotion online, maximizing the efforts being put unto it as well as leveraging the potential it could have for your business is quite essential.

Usually, it is being done by posting regular updates which are in relation to the type of business you are in as well as the products and/or services you are offering to your prospects and customers. It could be by way of a status update through your business’ Facebook page or a 140-short tweet from Twitter.

Since a social media profile of your business calls for regular updates, it is indeed essential that you have to pick out which type of updates you should post in your social media accounts to be able to empower the social media presence of your business.

While there are a range of topics or updates eligible to be posted on a social media profile, I have sum up here a few of the main types of updates you have to post to your business’s social media profile to be able to reach an even wider range of customers and to keep them coming back for more.

Updates/News related to your business field

Do you own a business about car parts and accessories? Why not post some new updates from the latest trends and news within the automotive industry?

With this, your fans or followers will be able to know more about what’s happening on the field with the information you have provided.  By doing such things, you could be able to establish a better business brand by being a thought leader or the one having the expertise in a particular field.

Just don’t write it all up on your social media account, though (remember there is a limit to your number of characters on Twitter) but instead, provide a link pointing out to your business’ website or blog or perhaps link it to an article which you have just read which refers to the same topic.

Some links to helpful and interesting content

Have a new content to share to your fans and followers? Well, you could give it out as an update by putting in some snippet of the post and then a link below or next to it. This typically applies to a blog content but it doesn’t mean that a new content from simply a non-blog website is not on the list. Remember, just make it new or you’ll bore your followers.

Links pointing to other helpful information

Sharing other links on your social media profile isn’t really a bad idea at all. Always keep in mind that you are not the only one who makes such relevant and engaging content. If you happened to stumble upon some blog posts or a content which you think could be of a great help to your audience, then why not share?

Some analytics have indeed shown that it is one good way of bringing in new audience to your social media business profile, regardless of the source may be, just as long as they find it interesting and in connection to your business.

Deals, promotions, contests and freebies

Do you have a new product or a new service to offer? Or perhaps some promotion, contest, or freebie to hand over to your audience? If so, then post them as an update right away! What would be the use of them if you let them unnoticed to your customers?

Attract more and more audience as well as prospects by simply announcing an upcoming contests and deals. Got freebies? Who wouldn’t want then anyway? I think everybody does, and updating about it is just the right thing to do.

Answers questions from the audience

Most of your audience subscribe to your updates because they want to know something from you and assume that you are an expert in that particular field. So the next time a customer asks a question from you, don’t ever bother answering them. You could actually make their day and at the same time, it is one good way of showing how you value your audience.

Surveys and polls from your audience

When establishing a brand on social media, it is really important to consider your customer’s feedbacks and hearing their opinions as well. And this could best be done through polls and surveys. Through this, you will be able to receive feedbacks and know more about the opinion as well as the preferences your audience may have.

Humor related to the industry

Why the need to be so serious? Everyone wants to have some bit of humor in their end and you could use it to be part of your business update as well. However, you have to come up with a way that you could put in some sense of humor into your next status update.

In fact, it increases user engagement (such as the likes, tweets, comments, etc…) and also gives a positive light to your business’ social media presence at the same time.

The next time you make an update, try to be short but straight to the point (don’t overlook the character limit..!) This will help your audience not to be confused at what you are trying to point them out.

Got another essential type of update for your social media profile? Why not leave a comment below. Thanks!

  7. I think it’s important, that you post a big range of different things. Like you propose: polls, give-aways, business news from inside and outside your business. This represents you the best, I think.

    • That’s true sehlig. It is important that there is diversity in what you write in your blog. It helps a lot to keep your visitors returning.

  8. It’s important to keep your posts interesting. Only posting links to your blog will get dull after awhile. Switch up the kind of content that you share and be sure to engage in a conversation two since social media communication should be two way.

    • Argie Monroy says:

Definitely. Besides, who would want to see a content which makes no sense at all. The sad thing is, I’ve found such stuff within several business profiles by which they only post links pointing out to other site without even telling or asking their fans or followers their own point of view about it. Since conversation is indeed a must, then simply talking or asking your fans could mean such a great thing. Thanks for your point Nick.

  9. Among these, I would prefer polls. They really makes people interact with the person which is so very important

    • Argie Monroy says:

Great points Tushar! Polls indeed are one great way of interacting with your social media fans and followers. And of course, the more votes you get, the more interactive your presence there is and that would simply mean that you are doing good on your own line. Perhaps we could do out some polls by simply asking the fans which ones work best or maybe a question from the related industry and so on.

  14. hi Arkie,
nice post and now time has come when we have to not only care about search engine traffic but also social media traffic too as it give us a recognized on particular niche and engaging follower is beneficially in term of your niche as well as for good if you are affiliation

  15. I like posting news feed updates. They are more frequent than polls or surveys.

  16. Argie,

I love sharing other people’s stuff and funny videos or images. When I am only I rarely get to socialize in a personal or not so business like manner so when i find something funny I will definitely share it.

Actually this morning I shared a video of a cute deer. I know, silly, but that is how I roll.

    ~Allie

  17. I mostly put up links to album reviews, free music, and music videos that are on my blog. I might start doing different kinds of updates on my Twitter just to diversity a little bit.

  18. This is a great post with a lot of helpful tips. I think it should be noted that people need to remember that their business page isn’t their personal page. I see far too many personal bits of information posted on business pages. I love the humor idea, though!

  19. Yes, it’s great to share things, especially from the industry you are coming from. But what is also very valuable is to create your own photos, your own videos, your own online vouchers with your online posts, which are having your logo on the social networks, to emphasize the brand’s “strength”.

  20. You’ve listed some forms of content that I haven’t considered in the past… very thorough review. It is truly an art form… to combine many of these into a single package that provides a nice experience for the reader, while giving the search engines what they want.. Well done!

  21. Useful tips there! Interesting that they can be applied not just to business blogs, but to personal brand-building blogs, too.

  22. You nailed it! I’ve learned a lot from your blog here! Keep on going, I hope more people discover your blog because you really know what you’re talking about. Can’t wait to read more from you! I will keep an eye on it. This is a great post and pointers…. Thanks!

  24. Nice to see you here, Argie. Very good post with lots of tips in a single. I keep on sharing interesting information on my blogs. And I add links to informative articles pointing outside my blog for references.

I never used polls. Thanks for the idea. I’ll surely will, ASAP. :-)

  25. Hey Argie,

One thing that always works is humor. Also, making sure that the interaction is two way; ask opinions, the readers always feel that their opinions matter and that they have a say and it makes them look forward to the updates!

This was a very interesting read! Engaging readers is always tough but showing them that you are relentless in your efforts shall go a long way!

    • Hajra,

I really like the way you think. Asking opinions, especially from moms and experts, you will get an answer every time.

And humor. I think it is fun when a company mixes it up and asks for opinions in a funny way. For instance, an SEO blog asking what is their favorite ice cream flavor. Sometimes something like this has nothing to do with SEO but it breaks the ice and let’s people know you are human.

      ~Allie

    • Argie Monroy says:

Sure is Hajra. Humors are one good way of drawing in interaction between your business and your fans as well. There might be some instances by which you could post some humor that is not quite related to your field but at least, don’t try to overdo them or else you’re doomed. Thanks for the comment anyway :)

  26. I also think that you should have communication with people who read and comment your work. In this case they will feel that their opinion is important for you. And you can even get some useful advice

  27. Nice tips! It probably depends on target group, but I’d say that humor is always the best option…also, two way communication and interesting things from other sites/blogs…well, for my site this worked best…

  28. Thanks for the tips as they are very nice and they really work and they are effective and in fact everyhting which is connected with the site and your business can become very effective as you never know what can interest your visitor.

  39. This is a really excellent read for me. Must admit that you are one of the coolest blogger I ever saw. Thanks for posting this useful article.

  40. i think that your insight is deep, its just well thought out and really happy to see someone who knows how to put these thoughts down so well.

  41. This is a solid advice. When I first got started in internet marketing I used to be afraid to link out to others. I thought I should try to hold on to my traffic and I saw everyone else as competition. Turns out I couldn’t be more wrong about this selfish idea. Sharing useful contents or links with your followers is a good thing. It is good for them and good for you. Not only that, often times I made friends with other webmasters because I introduced them to my regular visitors. I now regularly share contents of others through Twitter and Facebook and the neat thing is other webmasters do the same for me because they know I provide quality contents.

  42. You also know how to make people rally behind it, obviously from the responses taking time and real effort to make a good article !!
