You can add some interesting and fun videos, pictures, punch lines, activities or even create contests such as ‘the last post wins free movie tickets for XYZ movie’.
This can certainly grab the attention of the local audience and get you more likes and comments. But always remember that Facebook has certain rules too. Adhere by the rules and everything else will be fine.
Good content is the trick
If you want your Facebook page to be really popular then nothing works better than good content! Did you know that when people go to a website, they just look at first few and last few lines to judge whether the website is worth looking at or not.
Same goes with Facebook page – great catchy content can attract a lot of attention. Make it interesting and interactive so that people get keen to read more. Do not ever use technical language which goes on top of the head. Remember that common people exist in this world.

Great tips! I hope you don’t mind if I add this: don’t exaggerate the Facebook importance: I’ve seen lots of contests that reward people if they gave many “likes” to the specific company fan page. Press releases, ads and so on about their contest on Facebook. Such effort wasted to promote Facebook, when they should focus on their website, not on their fan page, which is nothing but a marketing tool.

Next week my company, a new start-up, is going to do a big Facebook push. Our plan is to basically request likes from everyone in the community but try to do it in the most warm and personal way. @Robert ‘like’ contests just have to be managed properly, to make sure that once you get all the likes, you manage the new fans properly, and show them the way to your site.
Or, you could just add your entire site to Facebook using an app such as MyWebees (http://www.mywebees.com), which ports your entire website to a tab on your fanpage, so fans can browse your site without having to leave Facebook.

I agree with you. Even in personal account, people will “like” the post if they got interested on it or they really like it and I think it goes the same with Facebook page.
Good content as always is the king but creating good content its also the most difficult issue when posting something that must be creative, unique and attractive.

You know before I was afraid that people might think of me that I spread my links everywhere and too promotion to myself. Some even thought that I was a spammer. So, I rarely put my links.

Sure , it is … a great way … personally to promote my fan page i ran one contest giving away a tablet pc … it did give me some responses … i feel it all depends on your objective … is it for brand awareness or for actual sales.

Facebook isn’t about the number of likes you have on your page. It’s about the number of relevant likes on your page – people who are likely to actually interact with your page and posts once they’ve clicked like.
Fiverr (or any other like-buying mechanism) is a complete waste of money. If you want to get more fans on your page, use Facebook ads.
