Few years ago, leveraging the internet to market a small business organization was simply meant to create the online presence. Most organizations nowadays work online and without sharing a web space it is almost impossible to target the exact number of visitors as the efforts may become scattered. Then came the demands of the search engine optimization experts and that of the search engines where websites had to be top-ranked in order to gain attention of most visitors.
Presently, social media is gradually getting transformed into a business marketing landscape and this is why most businesses are resorting to social media marketing in order to increase and augment their returns. Have a look at some social media tips that you may follow if you want to make the best use of your resources.
1. Try and offer live events on Facebook: If you want to provide additional tinge into your social media website, you can certainly include some live events, chat sessions, seminars or webinars so that an increasingly large number of people get attracted to your profile. The more the people get live things to see, they’ll be more interested in your profile as this boosts the credibility of your website. People will get an idea that your profile is trustworthy enough. Now that there’s a Facebook Subscribe button, there may be even more opportunities to stay in the news feed.
2. Start small: As there is an increasing popularity of the websites, most youngsters open a profile in almost every particular website they get but you have to make sure how long they stay in it. Only building profiles in multiple websites is not enough as you also have to make sure that they update themselves with whatever they see and check them out so that your commercial aspects are also fulfilled.
3. Don’t annoy any of your followers: You will get followers when you have a profile in any social media website and it is your task to make sure that you don’t annoy any of your followers. This can have a bad impact on your reputation as they may not feel secured enough by staying in your profile or by disclosing anything personal in your website. Follow them back so that they get a sense of credibility and they can thereby sign up with your company or business organization.
4. Research what your customers are saying: When you sign up with a social media website, you can get in touch with a customer who is not satisfied with your product and also some other customers who love your product. Stop reading the success stories of others; instead research what your readers are telling you so that you can take steps according to it.
Therefore, if you’re a business owner and you’re new with the internet, create a profile in a social networking website like Facebook, Twitter, and the others and target your audience so that you can get back best returns and boost the profit of your business.

Another tip is visiting another fan page that has the similar niche as of yours then visit their likers and invent them to like your page. This is a good way to expose your fan page, strengthen your online presence and look for potential customers.
I think that these tips is so effective to not only beginners it also helps to seo professionals because social media tips increase the followers of the website but there is no control of bounce rate.

Social media is just like a network of people and if you are sharing a useful thing for in your friend’s net work then you might get a number visits from there but before this you must build a network of friends over there such as great media sites like Digg, Stumbleupon, reditt etc.

I think the real key is starting out small (like you said) to determine where your target audience hangs out. It’s much better to do 1 or 2 social networks really well (engaging with fans, providing knowledge, etc.) than be on every single social network and not be able to keep up!

Wow, I did not realise that there are so many social media options. I have been increasing my Facebook and Twitter in the last few weeks, but just looking at your graphic above blows my mind. I have not heard of most of those!
Is it possible for a 1 man band (me!) to really do social media at this level? Or should I just stick to a few of the best? OK, you do say start small – but how long do we stay small? And is staying small worth the effort in just being small?
At the moment I am not seeing much of an increase in Facebook referrals and nothing in twitter.

It’s risky to write and publish a book about a specific social media platform. There is no guarantee that the platform will be as popular or as relevant by the time the book is published.

It’s already proven that having a live event on social networking site will definitely create more traffic, I do believe at tip number 3 and 4. “Don’t annoy any of your followers” – Once you annoyed a follower, one more more customer will surely won’t visit your site again. “Research what your customers are saying” – This would be your way to get your customer’s satisfaction, research their needs and wants.
As someone who is just getting started with all of this, I found your tips very helpful. The internet is full of articles on this stuff, but this really crystallized things for me.

Nicely written post. I think the most important thing you said was “there are many ways to get traffic now”. Although we focus the bulk of our time on SEO, social media is definitively on the upswing. Any type of online (or offline for that matter) is based on finding your crowd and then giving them what they want. Although I spend a lot of time on Facebook, I too was unaware of the “live” feature. On my way to check it out right now.
Thanks for taking the time to share a great post with us!

Hi Edwin….
Social Media is of course the next big thing……
Not every one can ranked in search engines for highly competitive niche such as make money online or get 6 pack abs…..
One needs to understand now that there are hundreds of other ways to drive traffic other than google, social media being the one…
facebook has more than 750 million users :O ….it is undoubtedly a great source of traffic….
However i haven’t use live events for facebook…will look into it….

Many times, a lot of bloggers that are just starting out attempt to do the same things that more established bloggers do and expecting to get the same results within a short period of time!

I think I like the best the idea of researching of what are our customers’ preferences. By knowing what they want ahead makes one step forward in doing good business.
Starting small is also a good advice-after all, no one could reach big if there wasn’t for taking small steps and smaller bites prior to the big success.

Great post, Edwin! I like the fact that you mentioned to focus more on researching and starting small. Many times, a lot of bloggers that are just starting out attempt to do the same things that more established bloggers do and expecting to get the same results within a short period of time. They completely forget that these established bloggers start small and tried different techniques to see which ones worked and then focused on them.

What I am really annoyed with that when people start social media promotion, they build huge plans which are raly ahrd to fulfill and then they just claim that it doesn’t work. Patience and hard-work and you get results
Edwin – first of all, love the infographic! Hadn’t seen that one before. Second of all, great guest post. Social media is changing every day and it is important to keep up with those changes in order to stay abreast of all the benefits it has to offer. Thank you for the tips! :)

Hi Edwin!
Researching is such a powerful tool and I’m so glad you brought it up! When we listen to our customers through social media, I sometimes think that we just try to go after the main problem, instead of trying to research the underlying problem. Or sometimes it’s not even a problem, but something that they’re interested in.
It’s of great importance to those businesses that are using social media to not only read what their customers are saying, but get into their lives and really understand why they like certain things, heck, why they like your business! :)

It’s like a big wheel of sites to get links from and here are actually sites I just seen for the first time :) I think I need a walk through for each sites to see what they’re capable for my marketing scheme. Thanks for sharing this wonderful resource.
Good tips and they are perfect for starters who usually make mistakes and then learn from their mistakes. I think we can put research on the first place as for starters it is the most crucial element to work with. The more you study the better results you have.
Actually, Google+ is initiating a lot of changes in the social media landscape. Their innovations are pushing other companies to change the services they offer ala facebook. I think a big tool that people haven’t been talking about much lately is hangouts.
Google just changed hangouts to allow people to just view your hangout as an audience. Up to 250,000 viewers, while you are having a hangout. It seems to me this would be a powerful tool to do live teaching events and webinars. Someone could set up an entire live training event and promote themselves to a quarter of a million people. That’s awesome!

I’ve been struggling to do live events on Facebook. Because my followers want prizes and I can’t find sponsors for that. I’ve always been wanting to run a contest for my blog. Perhaps you could teach me how to do it with little or no cost?
Perhaps you could offer a small discount on your normal service – that could be a prize? Or perhaps offer some one-to-one training, advice or something else of special value?
Sandip recently posted..KGB Deals
Sandip is right. Clients love discounts. And I can see that you are a veterinarian just like me.
Michael, of course! – you should BUY your clients with discounts – so they can BUY your service\product.

Or you could write a small ebook with some of your precious advice then you can give them that free ebook as prize. Or you could buy some high value vouchers for very low price and give them that for free. I have heard of $87 google ad vouchers being sold for $5.

Why not write an ebook and publish it (advertise on your site) at a certain price for a month (say) and then offer a very generous discount if the client signs up, shares, likes etc. Provide an incentive to be social etc.
If the book does not sale, then you can use it to market the next book by offering it free. I see a lot of free ebooks, I suspect that many are the first that were written by the business.
