What are you blogging about?

Print Friendly

There are so many blogs out there. And by so many, I mean many more!

But what are the blogs talking about? What are people blogging about? Not just about blogging and making money online. Those are wonderful topics but there are so many topics explored.

So, here is a series on what others are blogging about. Four bloggers per week, telling us what they blog about and why did they chose that particular! – In no particular order of course! ;)

JANINE RIPPER : REFLECTIONS FROM A RED HEAD

I started blogging in June 2010 for an online community called Emergen. Initially I started blogging because I had the urge to try to write again, after a hiatus of years due to being lost in depression and a career I was not passionate about. Emergen was a ‘safe’ community whereby I could explore the writing process, as well as topics I was passionate about like  tolerance, leadership and bullying.  I’m now the Blogging Coordinator for Emergen, and aim to help young people in Australia use blogging as a tool for social change.

Creating a personal blog seemed like the natural progression to make, as it provided me with the degree of freedom I couldn’t get in blogging for other people, or in creating my own ‘professional’ blog. I started my personal blog in September 2010 - Reflections From a Red Head.

The title of the blog is a spin off from the fact that I think way too much (should I say ‘reflect’) and from my hair colour, of which I’ve hated and been teased about for years. At the age of 33, I finally decided I loved my hair colour and that I was sick of being bullied for it. I was also sick of bullying in general. So why not include a reference to my hair colour in the title and use the blog to champion difference? (It also gave me an excuse to incorporate my new favourite colour of red into the design of the site).

As my blog surpasses 10 months, I just know that deep down my heart lies with blogging of a more ‘personal’ nature. I mean, sharing my stories and thoughts certainly does help me – and I hope that they help others to.

STUART MILLS : UNLOCK THE DOOR

Unlock The Door is my personal development blog. I chose to blog about personal development because it was the ‘niche’ that resonated with me the most. I’m not interested in niche websites, or on how to make a five-figure profit in a month. Instead, I chose personal development because I want to help others.

My mission in life is simple: to help others, to serve the Universe, and to leave this world a better place than when I found it. With my blog, I feel that it’s an ideal way to help move towards that mission. I know I’m helping others because others have thanked me for their help. And I know that I’m working towards making the world a better place because there could be any number of things that I could spend my time on, that are wasteful and harmful to myself and everyone around me.

My blog is for people who are genuinely interested in improving themselves, and who have an interest in being better at what they do. What ‘they do’ could be anything from being more pleasant around their families, to figuring out the meaning of life itself. Whatever my readers strive to accomplish in their lives, I try and help them achieve that goal, or way of living, by sharing my wisdom and writing it down as clearly as I can.

But what I don’t do is blog half-heartedly. If I couldn’t be bothered to blog, I can’t expect others to read it. It wouldn’t be fair. So I blog about personal development, and write from the heart, and I hope that others out there in the world take the time to read and listen.

ROY A. ACKERMAN : CEREBRATIONS

My blog is called cerebrations on purpose. I am involved in a plethora of activities that require creative thought. To spur others onto successful creations, I describe new topics or considerations for management, technology, medicine, or finance. I look forward- with great anticipation- their discussion among my readers.

SAMANTHA BANGAYAN: WHAT LITTLE THINGS

I blog about my experiences as a Canadian expat living in the Central Andes of Peru. My blog has become a venue for me to reflect on life and encourage others to reflect on life as well. Through my blog, I’m able to not only document my experiences here, but also to make a commitment to continue actively observing and questioning everything around me. I’m finding that life is so much fuller and so much more colorful when we consciously live it!

But nothing is ever achieved single-handedly and I notice my reflections growing and evolving as I converse with my readers in the comments section. The responses to my posts are so valuable because they encourage me reassess and blend perspectives from different walks of life and from all over the world. It becomes a learning experience for everyone who participates!

So, there! Four bloggers talking about their passions in blogging? What is yours? What inspired you to blog.

Also, stay close by, there is more coming!

I love blogging. It gives me the possibility to write my thoughs and concepts and to actually have an audience for them. Apparently there are many people out there who want to share their thoughts but never had the technology to do so before blogging came up – everything was kept in privacy and diaries i guess!

    Hey, Hajra.

It’s great to find Stu and Samantha here. And, thanks for pointing me out to Roy and Janine. I will visit their blogs after I comment here. :)

I blog because I want to share the magic of 3D rendering to the masses. There are a lot of people who are yet unaware about the benefits of 3D renderings in their business and I want this to change. Blogging about 3D rendering might be hard because it is a niche topic but it has helped me to be more creative about presenting my stories to my audience.

That is such a new way to look at blogging – sharing learning. Your posts are awesome and more than useful. But yes, even if one person looks at the posts and says it helped them in any way, that makes all the difference…doesn’t it?

I decided to start blogging to share reviews on different spas and restaurants found in the city where I live. After reading about the condition of the travel industry in my country and being able to finally start traveling after a very long time, I expanded my blog a little bit so that now it’s more a travel blog than just another spa and restaurant review blog.
