BloggersCompete: An Easy Way to Find & Promote Blog Contests

Print Friendly

Has this ever happened to you?  You hear about a great blog contest via Twitter or another network, quickly enter only to discover, moments later, that there’s another, possibly better blog contest being hosted on another blog!  Had you known, ahead of time, you could’ve planned accordingly and conserved your energy for a bigger payout.

This happens to me all the time – it’s quite frustrating, because I want to support all of my blogging friends, by sponsoring or entering their contests, but I’m only one person, and I don’t care how efficient the internet has made our lives – we still can’t be in two places at one time!

Over the weekend, I stumbled upon a very interesting site that shows great promise.  At Bloggers Compete, bloggers can browse and enter blogging contests –it’s a great place for bloggers looking for opportunities to win cash.

Although, it’s a new site, I can see great potential in this community that makes it easy to find and enter blogging contests.  It brings them all together in one place where bloggers can browse and quickly find the opportunity that’s right for them.

It’s also a convenient place for advertisers interested in blog marketing.  Advertisers can launch contests and drum up excitement and get more exposure to their blog business or websites.

The contests vary based on the advertisers goals.  If an advertiser wants to see their site go viral, they can create a contest that focuses on how many social media shares a particular post gets.  If they want to get the word out about a new product or service they are offering, they can create a contest that awards the blogger for writing a stellar (yet honest) review.

What I like most about this site, is that the blog contest entries are published on the blogger’s own site – so even if a contest entry doesn’t win, the content the contestant has generated remains on their site.  Their audience gets fresh content and the blogger still gets to submit a link to the contest.

So how does it work exactly?

  • Advertisers who want to launch a contest, submit a summary of the information they’d like bloggers to write about.
  • Advertisers can specify how they want the contestants to link back to their site.  They can also choose their preferred anchor text and URL.
  • Advertisers must fund the contest before launching it and are responsible for choosing the a winner or multiple winners by the posted deadline.
  • Bloggers who have applied and have been accepted on BloggersCompete.com can browse the various blog contests.
  • Following the instructions and requirements, bloggers are to write a post for their own blog.
  • To enter the contest, they must click on the “Submit Entry” button on the contest page and submit the link to their entry post.
  • Advertisers get high quality back links, targeted traffic, greater brand recognition, increased influence and credibility.
  • The Bloggers get paid if they win.  They may also receive other freebies just for participating.
  • Entering a contest is also a great way for bloggers to promote and get more exposure to their blogs.

The first contest is already underway:  It’s a “Start-Up Tip” contest.  Sign up and then submit your site for approval. (Not sure your blog is ready?  You may want to check out Brankica’s post that offers 25 Quick Tasks to Improve Your Blog Today.)  Once you’re in, all you have to do is write a post that shares your 3 tips for starting a business, follow the guidelines, publish it on your blog and then submit a link to your post.  But you’ve got to hurry, it ends in just a few days!

So what do you think? Do you think you could benefit from a site like this?  What has been your experience with trying to keep up with all of the various blog contests around the blogosphere?

It’s a good deal for the advertisers. They get many ad spots for the price of just one. Might be good for small and new bloggers. I’m already making money selling text links. You just need to be a little proactive and read the emails from people asking for links. Some of them are legitimate and do pay quite well.

This is totally new idea for me. I mean this contest thing. How much a winner gets paid? Do they announce the topics or you have several choices to select from the topics to write about? How can I use it to promote my already running blogs?

Hmmm…. maybe there is money to be made doing this. This actually never occurred to me before. My biggest obstacle is time, precious time! I have so many other projects cooking away that, even though this sounds good, it might not make it to the top.

Am not into getting cash from my blog. (yet) But this is a great chance to really gain something without to much effort. If a person is writing about something that is in demand so hey! – why not enter the contest ?

Am doing what i was doing but someone could actually pay for this!

Hi, BloggersComplete seems to be cool site. I am surely gonna try it out. Thanks for sharing such a wonderful info.

    • You got it Ankit. Thanks for checking us out :). I read your post on Weird Programming Languages on your blog. Loved it! My favorite one you mentioned is the White Spaces programming language. That’s pretty weird, innovative and awesome all at the same time.

Anyway, I like your blog. I’d love to have you competing on Bloggers Compete :) – we have a new contest for $150 that’s ending in 2 days.

You have mentioned all needful points but I still think that blogger need to be too active and must take part another blogs by commenting or by guest posting before organizing something like this on his own blog. Because I have seen many blogs organizing contents but end up with 3 to 6 competitors only .

Thanks for checking out the article! The benefit of launching a contest through BloggersCompete dot com is that the site already has a lot of bloggers on the site that will participate in the contest, so by launching a contest on Bloggers Compete it’ll guarantee the participation you’re looking for from the blogosphere or your money back.

Hey Kiesha this is a truly amazing find! I can see this site really taking off. Brilliant idea if you ask me. Not to discredit this site in any way, I think it’s genius actually, but one of the first things that came to my mind was this type of setup for something else as well. I’m going to give my idea away here, who knows maybe the same people or someone else will run with it. I simply don’t have the time to start yet another project, too much on the go as it is. After that long winded build-up, here it is, drum role please… no drum role? You guys are no fun LOL, here it is: forumscompete.com – what do you all think? There are so many forum contests too, I think the same basic approach could be applied here. Sorry if I got off topic there a bit but does anyone agree?

I think that this is a great idea. I would definitely check this site out and participate because I started blogging last year and I just want to be able to network and become a vessel to other writers to come to my blog and get resources, etc and as I always say you want exposure and some connects do contests and guest blogging. It’s amazing how much info and friendships you can start when doing something like this. Great post!

Joining and/or hosting your blog contest is a great way to get more exposure. Everytime I host a contest, my audience grows. It’s a win/win!

    • Hey Talia,

Thanks for checking out the site. I checked out your blog and saw the snippet from your upcoming book. “He wanted to swim in her scent for eternity.” That was beautiful. What a hot intimate book.

I also read your post on D.O.B. It’s scary. But I think there’s something powerful about paper that computers will never capture. I personally had a tablet back when no one else really had one, because I worked for Gateway in college as a Marketing Rep, and I still liked the pen and paper way of doing things over the tablet for note taking.

I’d be honored if your blog participates on BloggersCompete.com

  18. Kiesha: Thanks for the heads up! I will be saving the site to my bookmarks. I haven’t really been in the business on participating in contest, but I know I will at some point. When I get ready this will most certainly be where I go to look for contest to join.

Right now I don’t feel like I have the influence to come close to winning a contest. I might of felt differently a couple months ago, but my blog and influence online have really taken a hit due to my inconsistency lately. My focus is working hard to get things back on track.

Hopefully in a couple months I’ll feel ready to participate. I witnessed some people bring over 200 comments to their article! I know I cannot compete with that right now, but one day I will! You can count on that! ( :

      Hi William!
I say don’t count yourself out before you start – I almost let that kind of thinking keep me from entering a contest that eventually won me $500! I was afraid that I couldn’t compete with all the other great people that entered. So I decided not to look at their stats, but to focus only on my entry and doing my best to promote it. You just never know…
Thanks for stopping by and sharing your thoughts on this – I’m sure things will bounce back for you soon.

    • Hey Dennis,

Right now all the contests have to include post writing, but you just mentioning this is interesting, because there are a lot of contests out there that don’t include post writing, but include commenting, liking, tweeting and etc. Is a contest like that something you’d be interested in participating? Or is that a contest that you would be interested in launching?

Contest throwers can mention other requirements for the contest in the contest details portion when launching their contests. For example, a contest thrower can say

step 1: write a post like this.

step 2: share the post on facebook, twitter, google +1.

step 3: comment on these blog posts.

step 4: like this page, follow this page, etc.

This looks like a great method of some natural link building but as you said here:

“but I’m only one person, and I don’t care how efficient the internet has made our lives – we still can’t be in two places at one time!”

It’s the time thing that will do me in I’m afraid, as I have made a special effort to “focus” on a couple of distinct methods of link building/promotion, the primary one being submitting Guest Posts to high quality blogs such as yours.

I think I need to stick with my resolve, or I’ll be back being busy doing lots and achieving very little!

    Maybe in time….

      Hi Bruce,
I can definitely relate to “doing a lot and achieving very little” – you definitely have to set your limits. I can remember spending 16 hours online and still feeling as if I’d only just began – that’s because I was ineffectively trying to multitask. Now I try to focus on one thing at a time.

How coincidental I just found your article here! I just closed a contest ::: Perhaps I should launch a “bloggers” contest – I tried a general one – had to revise it once – my statcounter tallied HUNDREDS of hits per day, direct traffic to the “Win $100″ post – but, very few “takers” of the handful of entrants, nobody got past step one.

I tried entering a blogging contest once, and I found the “rules and regulations” to be a great obstacle to writing up an entry, so I gave up (too much time and trouble for a site where ‘blogging gurus’ are the usual contest-winners) – so i tried what I thought would be fun and easy to enter for folks – but Guess What? I’m just as bad a contest-maker as the next guy!

K, I’m gonna check out the site recommended here in your article and investigate some of these contests and try to come up with a better way to run a contest and award a nice prize!

    • “I tried entering a blogging contest once, and I found the “rules and regulations” to be a great obstacle to writing up an entry”

I totally agree with you. Contests should be free lance like, but should give some type of direction to the bloggers participating.

Thanks for checking out Bloggers Compete Dave!

      Hi Dave,
Designing a contest can be difficult – that’s why I really try to keep things simple and easily trackable – that way in the end it’s clear who won and why.
But don’t let anything hold you back from trying it again, sometimes the things we learn from our mistakes are what propel us closer to success.

  25. Edgar says:

It seems like an interesting service as blog contests are probably one of my very preferred marketing strategies. I don’t know if i’m a fan or participating in blog contests to win something but i can definitely go with offering something in a contest myself to promote my blogs.
