If you write for a blog or website and you want get more subscribers, you need to read these tips. Getting readers to subscribe to your website or blog can be difficult.
You need to offer something better than all the other writers out there. Follow these tips, however, and you will have plenty of interested subscribers.
Ask Readers To Subscribe
Readers are not going to subscribe if they do not know that they have that option. At the end of every article or post, include a sentence informing your readers that they can subscribe if they click a link. If a reader is interested in what you have to say, they will subscribe so that they can read some more of your content.
Write Plenty Of Interesting Content
Too many blog writers and website creators write content stuffed with keywords and do not think about whether or not their content has any actual value. Keywords can help readers find your articles, but they need to contain valuable information that visitors to your site will actually want to read. Write entertaining, informative, and engaging content, and your readers will be eager to sign up to read more.
Respond To Article Comments
Your readers will be more likely to become subscribers if you regularly engage with your audience. Respond frequently to reader comments so that they feel like you are interested in what they have to say. If people feel heard on your website, it is likely they will want to subscribe so that they can return and keep conversing with you and other readers.
Update Frequently, But Not Too Frequently
Although you should update your content regularly in order to give your subscribers something to read and discuss, be careful not to send your subscribers so many updates that they feel like they are being spammed. If you update too frequently, you could lose readers who simply cannot keep up with all your updates. Aim for one or two updates a week to keep people interested. Try not to send out more updates than this unless you have something truly exciting to announce.
Offer A Benefit To Subscribers
To get more subscribers, you should offer some benefits to readers so that they feel like there is a real reason to subscribe to your content. If you run an online store or shop, consider offering coupons just to people who subscribe. If you do not run a store or business, offer them access to exclusive content to reward them for their interest and loyalty. Let your readers know that your subscribers receive special deals, and people will be eager to sign up for regular updates. Following these tips will help you convince readers to become subscribers.

Some great tips on here – particularly like interaction. I don’t like coming across blogs which have no replies and am encouraging it on mine (worse still are blogs which don’t even give the opportunity to make comments).
The downside is that the more subscribers you have, the more likely people will be reading your content through Google Reader or another RSS reader. You need to keep in contact with your readers and the best way is to answer their comments.

How frequently, its it batter to update the site? Any experience?
Every one want to have benefits, so providing benefits to user is the best way to do.
Great article. I have written a bit about how marketers get subscribers here:

Great article. Thanks for the tips
I think the last one is definitely the most effective. Actually, if you offer a very good product, you don’t even need to ask them to subscribe :D You just have to catch their attention and explain them how good is the product that you’re offering, it’s free and they just have to subscribe to get it… and another tip… use popup domination.. pretty good service

Great tips Jennifer! Offering something as a recognition or a link back to the writer’s blog or website is cool enough to get subscribers. That makes me think too. I wish I could write better :)
Nice post, Jennifer!
If anyone’s interested in expanding on this topic a bit, see what you might be able to use from the magazines … more specifically, how they attract subscribers using those annoying inserts that seem to fly out at you …

Thanks for sharing that… i think using pop overs is best option to get more subscriber..

I highly doubt popovers will get you subscribers, more like get you never returning visitors. Most people today don’t like any form of popup, popunder, or layered (“popover”) ads.

Yeah, I’ve yet to try out the pop-over but I hear it’s really effective. That said, I think timing the pop-over to only appear after a few page views or once the visitor scrolls to the end of the post is most balanced.

Popups, popunders or pop-anythings are relics of the past along with Bonzi Buddy, Comet Cursor and Spyware filled toolbars. I doubt there are any users out there clamoring for a return to the intrusive advertising methods of 10 years ago.
What is to much is bad for us. I add a content to my site at least every 3 days. My visitors should have time to digest what I have for them before creating a new one. Great tips about subscribers Jennifer, people are most likely to subscribe if there are special offers that only subscribers can access.

Relationships with your readers is very important. Trust is a big part of developing a following. If your readers trust your content and feel secure in what you have to tell them is valuable information, it can develop into a long-lasting relationship!

I love this tip:
Update Frequently, But Not Too Frequently
Some blogs out there, who are indeed nice and good blogs, tend to update a lots of times in a day. Simply because, they have so many authors or guest bloggers that are posting and writing for them. I think they need some sort of scheduling of posting so each and every post will be given enough attention by the readers or subscribers of them.

Yes, you definitely have to keep up a good relationship with your readers. Like any business relationship, it takes networking and keeping your name in front of the person, making them feel like they matter.
Great article. I think subscribers are the reason why we write and a great way to build a fan base. Do you think that adding keywordluv and commentluv plugins are a necessity in order to get more subscribers? Or just more spam?

Good points. You need to keep in contact with your readers and the best way is to answer their comments. But asking to subscribe in every post can be annoying to many readers who have already subscribed.

Updating too frequently is annoying. I have unsubscribed to a handful of blogs who churn out content and post 4-5 posts a day. Most of those blogs are multi-author blogs which have turned into content farms. I don’t want to be bombarded by updates everyday. I, just like everyone else, do have only limited amount of time for reading :)

I have to agree here, there is a fine line between posting daily and posting multiple times per day. I usually try to make a new post at least once per day and sometimes every other day.
I just came across a blog earlier that already had around 50 posts for today alone, which is most likely just a content scrapper.

Even i agree to that, I post daily for 5 days a week. I am happy with the amount of subscribers i have and they are growing. I have learned this lesson hard way, for another site of mine i was getting good subscribers, so i thought they want more.. so i kept on posting regularly and 2-3 guests post almost daily, in two months time the traffic started to drop. I was a beginner and wanted to do it all.. but now I am really happy with the progress

Responding and interacting with the people that leave you comments is a huge thing, as people that stumble upon your blog/blog post like seeing that sort of interactivity between author and commentor.
Dan recently posted..Google PageRank Toolbar Updates?
All good points. Your point about responding to comments is especially good. You do not necessarily even have to agree with all points and views but you should always reply, and when you do interact with people who comment on your blog always be professional and civil about it and let people know that their opinions really do matter.

The number of updates to post is always a question that I have seen asked when someone starts out with a blog. I don’t think there is any true answer, but I feel that if you set a standard for updating your blog, then you readers will adjust to it and not mind how many times you update.
Writing interesting content will keep your subscribers interested in what you have to say, but the interaction is key. You want your subscribers to feel like their opinion matters to you, so replying and discussing the post’s topic with them is key.

HI Jennifer,
I really love the points you have made, especially, not updating too frequently, because I have experience, if I updated them frequently, the more people will unsubscribe.
Thanks

The downside is that the more subscribers you have, the more likely people will be reading your content through Google Reader or another RSS reader. You won’t get a “hit” on your statcounter and they can’t see your ads and some of your links.

I think benefits will help to increase the number of subscribers a lot and also when people feel that you interact with them which is also very important. That’s why answering the comments are very necessary if you want to be a successful blogger.
