Most of the bloggers suffer from lack of traffic on their blogs. There is no single method to generate traffic; increasing traffic is an art -a combination of many right things in right amounts. I say that successful targeted traffic generation is just 10 steps ahead. Here are some quick tips to bring more traffic to your site.
Focus only where it’s required
I don’t think you would be happy to see random people, absolutely uninterested in your content commenting on your blog, spamming it with irrelevant information; such traffic is immaterial. Hence, it would better for you to focus only on bringing the most relevant audience to your blog so that you know what your exact reach is. This is called targeted traffic generation.
This leads to a conclusion that going from site to site and keep posting your url will not help you bring more audience. It can bring you only a bad name and not good traffic.
Write your title and content wisely
Here you need to consider one thing that the better keywords you have the better are the chances of your article to be displayed in a search. If you clutter your article and title with unnecessarily high number of irrelevant keywords, you will have poor audience brought to your page who will feel cheated on reading the content and would bring bad name to your blog.
Quality is the king
You may have heard it 100000000 times. But still do you care? Never compromise on quality and do not make the mistake of selecting quantity over it. It would be better to develop content which can be read long after you post it and doesn’t become too obsolete over time. In short, post timeless content for constant flow of traffic.
Not every fruit is sweet
No matter how much you love every single page of your blog; the truth is that all of them are distinct in terms of content and quality. Some might be people’s favorites and other might be ignored altogether. Some posts go viral within few minutes of publishing, but some others never get any attention at all.
So focus more on those pages which you feel would leave a very good impression on the readers and would force them to explore the other articles of your blog.
Participate
In order to be recognized in the community, you must contribute in its development. Comment on other blogs and posts, participate in discussions and provide your inputs. Once the other bloggers start recognizing you, they will acknowledge you and in turn, directly or indirectly, would expose you to their audience.
Guest posts
Invite guest posts from others and write guest posts for other bloggers. We all know that guest posting is a win-win situation. When you write guest post for other blogs, it will help you in generating inbound links and also in getting recognition among the audience, apart from the various other benefits.
Go Social
Social media is the next big thing without any doubt. It provides one with ample of opportunities to market. Cautious promotions, solely based on networking techniques, may help you reach your target audience fast.
Follow the followers
The world is not the same anymore. Time is gone when customers used to run after the companies for products. Competition is fierce and so in the present world, companies need to turn around.
Same is the case with any online business. Your readers have vast number of options; don’t make them wait. Listen to them and connect with them outside your blog, may be through facebook or via other platforms.
Competitions/Contests
Organizing contests is an easy way to make it through the large number of audience (well but it is not an easy thing to do! Zebida is an expert on doing that :)). Just like guest posting running, participating and sponsoring contests are all best ways to generate huge amount of traffic.

Be a part of your readers’ life
Give your readers their space, their freedom to share, give away rewards, get into their mail boxes, provide them enough reason to talk about you offline. Encourage them to contribute in the success of the blog. Remember, they themselves will provide you the word-of-mouth if they feel the ownership.
Takeaway:
Traffic generation is not a complicated thing to do. It may all seem overwhelming to develop long term connections, consistent in commenting and promoting stuff while creating content for your blog. But once you practice consistency with all the above mentioned points, you really can enjoy gushing traffic.

As always Jane, very insightful and practical to implement.
It was nice to go through the points you made and putting my check mark next to it confirming that I am doing some things already.
One thing I would like to add to your list is patience. Doing all of these things only with persistence will yiield the desired results. It does take time but keeping at it will have you see results.
Thanks for a great share Jane!

Thanks Jane for that informative post. I agree with you that consistency in commenting and building links is the biggest challenge for many bloggers (especially new comers). Once one is consistent then traffic will definitely start increasing bit by bit.

It is undeniable that one of the biggest traffic sources is through social media. Especially if you are new blogger, these sites can help you find your target audience and drive traffic to your site. Social networks allows people to market their services to a large audience at no cost. Thousands of people use these sites daily, so you will be able to reach audiences free of charge.
All tips are experienced based but the most important is the blog commenting and Competitions/Contests.
I don’t know if social media is cracked up to be all that… Honestly, I look at it as cost/benefit. All this work, that I put into social media nets few clicks compared to good SERPS. Maybe, I’m doing it all wrong. Excellent article!

hi Jenny
You are not alone.Same case with me also. And one thing I’ve discovered in my online income adventure that the quality of traffic from social media is very low.I would like to prefer 100 visitors who come to my site through SERPs than 1000 people from facebook and twitter who don’t have any particular interest in my site. The visitors i get from facebook and twitter and other similar sites have a bounce rate 2 times than visitors from SERPs So it’s quite clear that when it comes to quality visitors then search engines are the best in delivering it.
well,, all tips are so good for listening,, but the the reality is not same as we think. some blogger feel down when they run out of traffic.. some methods are different with the reality,,

I like your first point the best, Jane. I see too many bloggers chase after any traffic they can get, but they don’t stop to ask if it’s the traffic they want. Numbers, numbers, numbers. They are so alluring to bloggers – especially when you have no traffic. All numbers are not the same though, and if you aren’t concentrated on generating the right form of traffic there’s heartache 10 blocks ahead.

Hey Jane,
This is great! I had to learn to put my focus where it was really required, and since then things have been going up, up, and away for me! People must start focusing on whats really important, rather than things that just waste time. Time is something you can never get back, so it’s something you need to value.
I really believe in getting your brand around the blogosphere by participating. I always try to see what’s going on and what’s new. That’s the great thing about the blogosphere… there’s always something new. ( :

very well put Jane. Quality is the king, everywhere, not only in content. Any traffic is not necesserily the right traffic, since it doesn’t bring money. Any traffic might as well incrase your bounce rate and do not good at all. Targeted traffic, which comes from Google search results, is the most likely to be your loyal visitors because you are something credible to them; they made a research and you came up in the results. “Google can’t be wrong” they say.

Hey Steven,
I believe you have a good point, because google still remains to be my number one traffic provider. For that very reason I believe in top quality content, so i can get more search engine traffic. Target traffic is the traffic that makes you money, promotes your word, and the type of traffic you can build a community around.
God bless,

Nice article. I especially like the idea that you mention about posting timeless content for a constant flow of traffic. I’ve read lots of posts on the subject of generating blog traffic, but I have yet to come across one that has touched on that point – a very good one!

I really enjoyed your views on content etc. I dont have a blog yet, but am considering one. I have spent lots of time researching blogs, content, content cycles etc. I really enjoyed the way you laid out a really nice view or outline of what may help to create a quality blog. I still struggle with the content issues…….. what readers will like and will not. I guess there will be a learning curve with that. I will have to jump in with both feet and give it a good run. Thanks for the great tips, I look forward to your next post!
Great tips her concerning traffic. I did a poll on my blog about the length of post. The general consensus was that shorter is better; around 500 -600 words.
Then again all of the commenters were other bloggers who probably have many more blogs that they want to comment on.
