Is Your Lack of Coding Skills Holding you Back from Building a Website?

Because I’m always talking about blogging, I often get caught off guard by people who are looking for guidance about creating a website.  They often want to know how to do it themselves to spare the costly expense of paying a web designer.  But many of them don’t fully understand the coding aspects, and are really just confused about where to begin.

For the longest, many of them have let these roadblocks keep them from setting up their website in the first place.  When I tell them that there are websites, like Talk Spot where they can build their own website and use pre-built templates, they often want to kick themselves for waiting so long.

TalkSpot was founded in 2001, and is run by one of the industry’s most successful computer pioneers, Ken Williams.

  1. I also find web design difficult, a lot of codes are required and a single mistake can cause the whole thing to malfunction. But I’m trying my best to learn it as soon as possible.

  2. This is awesome. I don’t have any coding skills but I’ll like to make websites until now my nonexistent coding skills took me back but now I’ll try to do something.
Thanks for posting this, it’ll help me a lot.

  3. I have the necessary knowledge and expertise in coding so designing and developing a website is not a problem for me. But recently I realized that apart from simple coding skills are not enough – we have to work with seo specialists to prepare our site or a blog for future promotion. Or – as an alternative – learn seo myself – that’s exactly what I’m doing :)

  4. Hi Kiesha,

My coding skills actually do take me back! lol
I spend hours and hours with that stuff and get nowhere, or I go backwards.

Needless to say, coding is not my strong point

  5. Well, I don’t think that something as trivial as coding is keeping me away from building more website (I am a programmer first, then an entrepreneur).

But for all those non-techie out there that want to build a website and think that they don’t have the right skills then your offer looks really cool. And also, there are a lot of tools out there that can help anyone build a website with no coding in sight.

Of course, having a techie by your side is always a good thing, and buying a product where you can get support is a good decision.

  6. I hear this a lot from people, but especially with all the content management systems out there it’s pretty easy to have a decent looking site by using say… wordpress or drupal.

When I started out I remember it was html and css, but now I think anyone can avoid that completely and get by pretty well.

  7. As for me, I prefer outsourcing the tasks that I can’t do myself or where I have little knowledge. It can be very cost effective and not professional to do everything yourself.
Of course, if you do it for yourself, why not – go ahead and experiment but if you do it for customers – forget about this uneffective practise. Outsource to professionals.

  8. Hey Kiesha,

I was definitely one of those people who struggled to set up their website because they didn’t know the coding aspect. I wish I would have knew about Talk Spot in past, because this site would have saved me a lot of money.

I think I will give the free 30 day trial a chance and see if I can see myself using Talk Spot. Thanks for the recommendation Kiesha.

  9. Hi Kiesha,
Thanks for sharing such a value added post. I am not very good in HTML or any other language so Talk Spot is a good option for me to start a new website.
