Get Serious – Your Blog CAN be Your Home Based Business

16/365 A teleworker's powersuit

No, this is NOT another “tips for making money online” post. This is a NOT about becoming a guru or getting rich quick. Honestly, if the only reason your’re blogging is to get rich, I hate to bust your bubble, but you’re probably going to get fed up and quit between now and the next six months.

Now, if you’re blogging out of genuine passion and you’re blogging to share information about it, then I encourage you let your passion be your fuel.

When I try to explain to people that I blog for a living and that my home based business is centered around that, you can probably imagine how many confused looks I get.

It doesn’t matter if your family and friends don’t understand. They don’t have to take what you’re doing seriously – you do!

If you’ve been approaching your blog as if it’s a optional hobby, but you’re wondering why it isn’t bringing the opportunities to you want – it might be time for you to reconfigure what you’ve been doing.

If you’re ready to take your blog seriously and are looking for some awesome home based business resources, then I highly suggest you checking out iBlogZone by DiTesco.

He’s got a great blog that’s jammed packed with helpful resources for the blogger who is ready to build a business around his or her blog.

He is credible, trustworthy, and generous – he was one of the sponsors who helped me raise money for a less fortunate family during the holidays. And despite suffering a tragic loss of a close family member several months ago, he’s continued to build a top-notch blog that provides valuable information.

You can find posts that share blogging tips, marketing and money making tips, SEO, social networking and even technology tips. The site is very thorough.

For the beginner, I recommend reading:

Home Based Business Resources 2010 Recap

If those posts don’t get you started off in the right direction, I don’t know what will.

While you’re there, be sure to subscribe to his feed, newsletter, or follow him on Twitter: @DiTesco.

So go ahread and get serious about your blogging while you’re still pumped and resolutions are still fresh.

For those of you who’ve started home based businesses that center around your blog, what is the best advice that you can give a beginner? What pitfalls should they avoid?

For those of you who have been putting off getting serious about your blog, what’s been holding you back?

  6. Kiesha,

Nice insights from a blossoming blogger. It’s important to put thoughts into the monetization of the site. Not that it is the only reason people blog, however, it it’s intended to help drive in income…it just needs to be done. Actually, it’s kind of exciting sometimes to sit back and brainstorm where we all want to take our blogs to.

I’ll check out DiTesco’s site. thanks for the recommendation.

Kiesha – I used to have this problem when I first started blogging. I just had a hard time taking my blogging tasks seriously.

And I think what was holding me back from getting more serious were the people that didn’t understand or believe blogging can be a legit home based business. However, once I stopped listening to the doubters I started experiencing a positive change in everything I was doing online.

The best advice I can give a beginner is to surround yourself with positive people that believe in you and what you’re doing. And these people can be offline or online. With the right supporting cast it will be easier to focus on what you need to do and remain positive during tough times.

    Hey Keisha,

You are right on both counts. If you start you blog just for the sole purpose of earning you money, it will most probably end up a deserted blog. Very few people really make it in this blogging business if they’re only in for the money.

Also, reading diTesco blog can definitely point anyone who really wants to get started in the right direction, he really knows what he’s doing!

  16. What you get from your blog depends a lot on your attitude towards it. If you don’t believe that making money out of it is within your reach, then it is not going to happen. It doesn’t matter whether other people believe that you’ll succeed. Leave them! You are the one who needs to believe in success.
