Blog Candy: Sweet Tips from a Better Blogger

Have you ever wondered how some bloggers manage to score guest posts on top blogs like Problogger, Copyblogger and Zen Habits?

Meet Annabel Candy

This blogger has guest posted on all of these blogs and then some.

Since then, her blog has been soaring towards the top.

Annabel Candy blogs at Get in the Hot Spot – Empowering Tips for Life and work. She writes insightful posts that are engaging and thought provoking.

Currently her blog has an Alexa rank of about 46,000 and a Google PR of 4. I’ve been watching her blog climb rapidly over the last few months – ever since I discovered one of her guest posts on Problogger.

That just goes to show how much of an impact guest posting can have on a blog. It widens your reach and allows you to meet and network with people you wouldn’t otherwise be exposed to.

Almost every blog in the blogging tips niche has guest posting tips, but only a handful can present tips that have helped them land a post on top blogs like Annabel.

If you’ve been trying to get a break on the big blogs, I highly recommend checking out one of her most popular posts: Guest Posting on Top Blogs.

For a moment, it seemed like every blog I visited, I ran into Annabel Candy. I was so impressed that I had to seize a quick interview. I wanted to know what strategies and techniques were contributing to her blogging success so I could share them with you.

Interview with Annabel

1. What inspired you to start a blog?

I started the blog to learn about blogging and set up a platform for my writing.

2. What are your big blogging goals? In other words, what do you hope to eventually accomplish by blogging?

My blog is already helping me find new clients for my web design, copy writing and blog consultation services.

I hope to get a book published as well as sell my own books and courses through my blog and I’d love to do more speaking engagements. The ultimate goal for me would be to build my blog and the community and provide more interactive and community-based courses.

For me blogging is all about people so I’d like to work out new ways to get bloggers interacting with and helping each other.

3. Which blogging strategies have made the biggest impact on your blog and contributed to its rapid growth?

Guest posting and doing the Blog Writing Magic series.

4. How do you generate blog post ideas?

I’m not short on ideas. I read endlessly and keep a notebook stuffed with random thoughts, email myself links and tweets or questions which could become posts.

The hardest part for me is getting my writing out there fast enough. That’s what I’m going to work on next.

5. What’s one random or little known fact about yourself?

I’m a travel fiend and I’m not afraid to rough it. I can wash myself including my hair in a bucket of water and I’ve hitch-hiked extensively in Europe and Africa catching rides in everything from a Porsche to a donkey cart and the back of a gravel truck to a fire engine! I’ve got a lot of crazy travel stories to tell and I want to start a dedicated blog for those one day.

So there have it!

Have you ever met a blogger who’d piqued your curiosity so fiercely that you just had to connect with? How many awesome blogging relationships have you developed that way?
