My blogging dreams: Does this mean I need blogging rehab?

Print Friendly

It’s official – I’ll admit that moving has left me a bit traumatized.  I still don’t feel settled. The move has totally thrown me out of my usual routine. My travels were something akin to National Lampoon’s vacation – at one point a wheel malfunctioned and we had to have a vehicle towed and fixed – but by the end of the week when I finally got to my destination, that’s when it happened…

As much as I tried to prepare for the move by scheduling blog posts in advance and checking email via my cell phone, living without instant internet access had begun to take its toll. I started experiencing blogging withdrawal.

While I waited for the issue to get resolved and get things settled, I thought it would be the perfect time to catch up on some blog posts. You’d think I’d be able to dive right in – but no such luck. My brain was strained beyond capacity.

When I tried to sleep at night, all I did was dream about blogging. In my dreams, I’ve just written the hottest blog post ever and the entire blogosphere was raving about it  – it goes viral on Twitter, gets stumbled thousands of times and everybody and their mama is digging it. I’ve finally made it to that vague place called the A-List – then the next thing I know, it’s morning…

Back to the harsh reality: life without direct access to the blogosphere…ugh!

When I started having cold sweats and couldn’t stop itching and scratching, I came to the realization that perhaps I’d gone too long without blogging and was in desperate need of a 12-step program.

The only problem is that if I walk in to an AA meeting, I might get beat up or get coffee thrown at me for not having a “real addiction.” So what to do…?

“Hi, everyone… my name is Kiesha and I have a blogging problem…”

Have you ever dreamed you were blogging? Am I the only person that’s this crazy about blogging?

I’ve never dreamed about blogging, but I’ve had several withdrawals. Not too physical, but the urge of blogging strains my mind at times. Especially, when I have no access to the internet.

  2. Hello. This post was really fascinating, particularly since I was browsing for thoughts on this topic last Tuesday.

  3. I’ve had that experience too while I was on vacation. I just try to make myself busy with other things and try to interact with people who are with me on vacation. But sometimes when I reach for my phone and see the qwerty pad, I think about blogging.

  4. well it’s normal to dream about something you are passionate about and i do the same. Thanks for sharing this with us here. Great share!

    Kiesha,

You definitely need a vacation if you are dreaming about blogging. You are supposed to dream while blogging, not the other way around. (lol)

There have been countless times that I have caught myself dreaming about work in one way shape or form. If only we could learn how to have lucid dreams, then we could do whatever we want once we are in there.

Wow, that’s much of an addiction!

Personally I’ve dreamt many a times of blogging. Frankly just last night I had one! You see I’m thinking of an over hauling of my blog in the next few days. So before I went to bed last night I was doing some ‘mental’ works on the blog. Thinking of the changes to introduce, the possible layout etc. And then, believe it or not, I spent most of the night dreaming working on the blog.

  7. Well dreaming of blogging goes a bit too far for me, but nevertheless blogging thoughts are in my head for the bigger part of the day. I’m trying to make some kind of a blogging schedule in the morning for the current day. Will I go on BlogEngage first, Twitter or maybe read some articles on some blog – things like that.

I have dreamed about websites, linkbuilding and code, sometimes I have genius revelations, but usually when this happens it is a sign I need to take a holiday and get some fresh air, and maybe do some excersise!

It’s normal to dream about something you are passionate or stressed, but I trust that in your case is the first option :)

It’s hard to leave work behind at the end of the day, that’s who you are now: a blogger.

  11. You are not alone Kiesha. You are not alone! :)

Not only have I dreamed about blogging but I have also used some of the “dream” blog posts on my blog. :)

    Hi Kiesha
Came over from Virgin Blogger notes – congratulations on your guest post over there.

“blogging withdrawal” sounds terrible – is it contageous? LOL
Don’t worry you’re not on your own there are plenty of us who have the same virus.

No, I don’t think it’s contagious, but I hope you washed your hands after you typed that comment… especially if you have a habit or rubbing your eyes :)

  15. Hi Kiesha,

I’ve woken up many a night with a blog post idea fresh in mind. Unable to resist the urge I fire up the laptop to write a draft.

Yes, I’ve suffered from blog withdrawl too.

      Hi Ryan,
I don’t think blogger’s anonymous wouldn’t work for us, it would just give us one more reason to log on the internet. Plus, you’ve got to have the desire to quit in order for it to work. :)

  16. Hey Kiesha
I’ve just started blogging recently and yes I already need a stint at blogaholics anonymous! Tooootally addicted! When I close my eyes at night all I can see is that darned little blue twitter bird, flapping around me. I sleep for 20 mins and I wake up with a fantastic idea for my next post…but too tired to get out and write it down. Then I twist and turn for another hour or two thinking ‘if I don’t write this down I’ll have forgotten it by the morning.’ Eventually somewhere about the graveyard hour I remember I tucked a notebook and pen under my pillow the night before, because of aforementioned problem and go to write down my idea…but…aw heck!…it’s evaporated. It’s flapped off into the blogosphere where it will probably land happily in someone else’s subconscious, and hopefully keep them awake all night instead of me! P.S.I love your blog!

      Hi Rosemary,
That really is just about how it happens for me – but I’ve learned to just hurry up and either right it down or use the voice recorder on my cell phone which I keep on the nightstand – otherwise, I’d be totally nuts.

I’m addicted to blogging, and have just recently moved to a new home. I had to endure a period without internet access and that was the making for a nightmare. I’m struggling to find a balance here. I thing that will be my next post…. “finding the balance”.

So you can definitely feel me! If it wasn’t for my phone, I think I would’ve gone into withdrawal shock. I think that would make a great blog post, shoot me a link when you get it posted.

  18. delaila says:

I didn’t yet experienced that but i don’t think you are crazy because of that, maybe you are just always thinking of it every night that’s why you always have a dream about that matter.

It takes over my life! I think about new post ideas all the time(yes, all the time…) and it looks like I do need rehab. Trouble is, it’s fun, friendly and frantic. It’s also frustrating when I get stuck. But I’m glad I ‘joined!’

    Hey Kiesha,

I’ve dreamed before about business ideas that involved blogging. Some of these ideas became hot today. Maybe you should start an online meeting for bloggers who are addictive?
