Blog Promotion is easier when it’s a Group Effort

Community Spotlight Series

When I first started blogging, I used to wonder how bloggers got the word out about their posts so quickly – it seemed like everybody and their mama was retweeting the same post.

It turns out, many of those bloggers belonged to groups where they would post a link to the article they’d like shared on social networking sites. In return, they would share the work of their other group members. Each hand washed the other – it was a mutually beneficial partnership.

Now I understand how some content has the ability to go viral in such a short amount of time.

Today’s Community Spotlight is focused on Rob Cubbon, he’s recently created a group, (of which I’m a proud member) and in his post, he invites you all to join him in turning promotion into a community effort.

Can you imagine the power of joining forces with other like-minded bloggers and designers? (the group is open to both, by the way)

So take a moment to check out this post:

  1. Thanks for pointing us all in this direction. It’s an excellent idea to join a group and be a groupie, when it comes to promoting your blog.

I’m heading on over to check out Rob’s post right now.

    Hi Kiesha,

The blogosphere is too vast to go it alone, which is why having a network of people to help you is very important. I would caution people to not be pressured into promoting articles or things that they don’t believe in, just because someone else mentioned your article or site. You have to take into account your reputation sometimes, particularly if something could harm it. I guess I’m saying, choose wisely.

Thanks for pointing out Rob’s group.

    Hey Kiesha,

Thank you, for sharing this with us. I believe that bloggers should help each other grow a new community, a second family.
But any way of promoting your blog would help. Making yourself known is the hardest part, or better say the longest.

Hi Kiesha, thank you so much for promoting our group. Let everyone be assured that no one is obligated to promote the posts on there – if you don’t think the post is worthy of promotion, don’t do it!

But I think it gives some bloggers a little lift up the blog ladder. Especially worth considering the smaller sites like DZone or WebBlend on this group as well as the established big boys like Digg and SU.

And welcome to all Kiesha’s friends to the group!

    Keisha,

What an interesting idea. It does explain how some new sites just seem to take off like a rocket on the social media platforms. Definitely an idea worth looking into.

Does this really work? I means, often the word remains within the circle of bloggers. Outsiders could hardly smell your blog.

On the other hand, social media sites can work wonders, if you are lucky enough.

I like that it’s optional to promote a post. I’m not really a designer, so I guess this particular group isn’t really for me – but thanks for introducing me to the idea!
