Why you click links to other blogs

Print Friendly

There are many reasons people click links to other blogs. these links could be links on social media websites, links on comment luv blogs etc.

Here is the big one:

The Title Of The Post

This is the biggest reason why people click links to other posts. If the post title is interesting, provocative, promises something valuable or something counter intuitive, people will click to see what’s on the other side.

This is so because blog post titles are the first thing people see before they click to read a blog post. If you fail at titling a post correctly, people may never read that very valuable and informative post.

Blog post title attracts people to a post but the question is:

What makes a blog post title attractive?

Here are a few clues:

  • Is the title provocative?
  • Is the title counter intuitive
  • Is it something people would love to learn or know?
  • Is it something people will love to read about?

There are many other things that can make a blog post title attractive.

A lot have been written on how to title a blog post. You can read these resources to learn how to improve your blog post titles:

I agree! Catchy titles make me want to go hop on other blogs. Sometimes you just bump into those kind of articles that makes you so interested that you kind of forget which you are on. And the other thing, when a commenter puts out a REALLY good point. It’s hard tor resist not to go over to their blogs, and check what else they have to offer.

I click if I like the title or even the subject from that title. But also I click randomly and sometimes I’m surprised how good can be the articles even if at first I was reticent about them.

a blog post title that does not give the reader a reason to click will most likely not be clicked…i usually go the 2 ways..i write the title or the post first.but which ever route i take,i try to make sure that the post title has something people would love to click to read more.

    Hey,

I love coming up with titles and headlines. My most important feature is writing it in a kick-ass and fun way – you know, the way that makes your soul curious and almost forces you to click that publish button ;)

      Hi Mars!
I’d have to coming up with titles is the least fun to me. I’m not really sure why – I think it might because I don’t want to give it a title no one would want to click and then have them miss out on some great content. :)

  7. Eren Mckay says:

I always try to convey what the post is about in the title. Sometimes i may ask a question but usually I stick to the rule of letting people know what the post is about.
I think only the popele that are interested in what
I just wrote about will actually click.
    all the best,

Hi Eren! Great to see you here. I agree, you’d be surprised how many people don’t convey what the post is about very effectively in their titles. It’s a bit annoying to click over and find something you weren’t expecting at all.

  8. Blogetize says:

What I generally do is decide what I want to write about, pick a specific topic, and then write the post.

I title my posts after I write them because I don’t want to restrict the potential content of my post by making sure that it fits my title. My advice is if you can write a post before writing the title, do it.

  9. I’m not very creative with my titles. My titles are typically a question I think my current readers or future readers may have. Then in the article I answer the question.

Most of my titles are bland. Maybe that’s why my click through rates are so low. ;)

      Hi Chuck!
I tend to do that a lot, too. I like titles that ask questions and then answer them – maybe you should ask more intriguing or controversial questions.

  10. Ari Herzog says:

All I will say is I write the title before writing anything below it. If stuff I write doesn’t relate to the title, I either delete it, edit it, or save it for another post.

My title is what keeps me on target.

      Hi Ari!
I have days when I can write the title first and it keeps me focused, but then on others, it stifles my writing. I tend to save titles for last, but I’d never commit to saying that anyone should always do it one way or another.
