Blog better by following the baby steps of another blogger

What I learned from Ms. Freeman of

Baby Steps of an Internet Entrepreneur

The power of Asking

“If you ask shall you receive?” Is one of the memorable posts I remember first encountering on this site.  This very persuasive post reminded me of the value of asking.

Many times if we just took the time to ask more questions, we’d get more reader participation. If we gently asked for favors from others, every once and a while (not everyday, of course) we’d likely get more positive responses. This post was so compelling that I’m certain that everyone who read it became a fan of her Facebook Fanpage that day. I know I did.

The power of an engaging About Me page

“About Me” Before I landed on her about me page, I hadn’t thought twice about not having one.  But once I read her page, it felt as if I had known her for years. It was so engaging, it felt as if we were having a conversation – that’s an amazing feat! A well-written “About me page” bonds your readers with you and helps you establish yourself as trustworthy. I love Ms. Freeman’s page because she isn’t afraid to be honest and transparent.

“…many “gurus” may find this blog quite remedial, however if you are looking for a fresh perspective on Internet Entrepreneurship this is the place. There is no such thing as a stupid question here, and answers and comments are welcome from every reader…This blogs IS a personal journal of my rise from a 9-5 mid-level professional to a Dot Com Mogul, by any means necessary. Check back regularly for my plans, successes, and failures as I make my way to the lifestyle I was born to live.”

The power of contests
She holds great contests and regularly gives away ad space and other items.  She had some goals she wanted to accomplish, she wanted to continue increase her Facebook fans and she wanted readers to write an Alexa review for her site, which is an awesome strategy for increasing Alexa ranking. It worked extremely well, because within days, both her ranking and her fan count shot up.

The power of authentic comments
Actually she taught me more than the value of commenting, but I also learned what it means to be a part of blog’s community. Visit any popular blog and you’ll find her dazzling-smiling gravatar somewhere in the comments section, actually engaging and having a dialogue with the other members of the community – for her it’s not just about leaving a comment, it was about connecting and bonding with others.

The power of replying to reader comments
Visit any post on her blog and you’ll see that she has replied to almost every comment. Even if it’s just to greet the members of her community, she goes out of her way to make everyone feel welcomed.

The power of writing about life experiences
She gives you a glimpse into her life. She put her heart into every post and allows her kind and generous personality to shine through. She presents the challenges that come with running a Concierge business and because of the way she writes, you feel as if you’re right there with her and are able to empathize.

Is there a blogger that you’ve learned a great deal from?  What have learned from them that you couldn’t have learned anywhere else?

Join me tomorrow to read about her advice to newbies in an interview with this kind-hearted blogger.

    Kiesha,

Last night on #blogchat, Brian Clark (aka copyblogger) tweeted this:

“Go watch successful bloggers and see what they do, not what they say. Then do that in a way that works for you.”

There are too many bloggers giving advice but not taking their own advice to heart. It’s nice that you’ve found someone in Ms. Freeman who actually walks the talk. I think this is exactly what Brian had in mind we he wrote his tweet.

Interesting that It’s the second time I heard about the importance of having the about page in a blog. Looks like this is something I will need to add to my personal blog. Also looking forward to read about the “Baby Steps of an Internet Entrepreneur”.

      Hi Ms. Freeman!
Yes, I’ve taken notice and yes, I read – often with anticipation for what you’ll talk about next. Oh, and I enjoyed the trip to the National Museum of American History, yes, felt like I was there for just a few moments. :)

Is that tissue for you or me… :)

Gone through your About Me page and kieshaeasle is very right in reconizing. You showed the way a page should be developed. Really inspiring and influencial.

BTW, I’m afraid you forgot one dash (-) on that tag so, it is visible in page. If that tag is it won’t be visible.

Great suggestions here Kiesha! The one that really resonated with me is having an “about me”. That is something that I need to work on.
