Some sit there, quietly soak up the information that is shared by the speakers and then they leave without any engagement with fellow attendees. The ones that get the real benefit are those that interact with the other people attending, sharing ideas and experiences. The long-lasting effect of doing the latter can be much more rewarding than the seminar itself (leading to partnerships, joint ventures etc). So, how you use your time in the kitchen is so important.
