Blogging is about communicating ideas, connecting with people, and building community. Here are ten very brief but simple ways you can do that…
- BE passionate – there is no substitute for writing from the heart.
- BE controversial – not all the time, but don’t avoid it. Don’t be argumentative, but don’t skirt the tough topics.
- BE helpful – give your readers something they can use and apply. Tutorials, tips, and advice.
- BE generous – social media has ushered in new opportunities to be totally unselfish with our resources. Remember that “it is more blessed to give than to receive.” ~ Jesus
- BE funny – have a sense of humor. Sprinkle your posts with a bit of appropriate sarcasm.
- BE encouraging – we live in a world of hurt and every blogger has an opportunity to infuse it with a bit of hope.
- BE brief when called for – more words don’t necessarily add quality.
- BE lengthy when called for – sometimes a paragraph or short list of ten suggestions isn’t enough.
- BE engaging – connect with people, converse with people, write as though you’re sitting in their living room.
- BE humble – call yourself a “rockstar” at your own risk. If you’re wrong, people will laugh at you. It may just be they’ll call you that without you’re hinting around about it, but only if you’re passionate, controversial, helpful, generous, funny, encouraging, brief or lengthy depending on the situation, and engaging.
I had more in my head, but figured they’d be in your heads too. So what else?

The one I would add to this list is to ‘be yourself’. No one likes a faker.
