Traffic across the web spikes on Monday, stays heavier through the week, then goes down over the weekend. Though I won’t back this up with science, it seems that my most successful days of drawing attention to what I’ve written seem to be Monday and Thursday. The worst times? Friday night, pretty much through Sunday.
I’ve come to think of this as a good thing. It requires us to develop kind of a rhythm – working hard part of the week and resting at least a day. (Seems like the Creator even wanted things this way.) So what should you do on the “off” days – Saturday in particular? Here are five little suggestions…
FIVE WEEKEND ACTIVITIES FOR BLOGGERS
Spend time with real human beings… OFFline.
Start with your family and work your way outward, all the way to the mall if necessary, but get out of the house, out of doors. There is oxygen out there, and birds, and other flesh-and-blood human beings. Don’t do this and you’re bound for some depression and stark white legs!
Read other blogs.
Maybe you do this all week, but if not, spend some time capturing a tiny piece of the creativity of others. Let the talent of other bloggers rub off on you and stimulate your own creativity by seeing how they see the world and present content. Need a place to start? Here are my Google shared items, which represent a sampling of great links.
Plan ahead to Monday.
Since we know Monday is the high traffic day, give some thought to how you’re going to address it – what topic will you write on and what will be your plan of attack?
Read a book… a real book.
Books are these things made of paper, glue, and sometimes cardboard. Back before the Amazon Kindle you could enjoy one and simply dogear the page where you left off. Novel idea… So pick out a good book, even a good book on blogging.
Make design tweaks.
You don’t have to redesign your entire site, but make a few changes and additions here and there. Just today, I ran across this post of 5 quick and easy blog improvements over at Blogussion.com. It’s worth checking out.
And did I mention… get outside? What else do you do on the weekend while you’re earning all that passive income?

I like the idea of spending time with real people. We definitely do get too caught up with what is happening online that we forget about our friends and family.

It’s easy to forget that we need face-to-face interaction, without a screen.
Great post Brandon. I personally agree with this as well. Most of the articles that I post on the weekend don’t get nearly as much as the ones that I post on the weekends, especially on Tuesdays.
Yes, this tells us something about the poor work ethic of people sitting at their jobs reading our blogs.
Great Post!
Have scheduled a post for the weekend already, so can go out and speak to real people and read some more of my current book.
“Digital Media Ethics by Charles Ess” – Interesting read!

Cool David! Thanks for stopping by!
Just in the past month I have been starting to implement a number of your suggestions above. Prior to this I would work all day at my online business – not that it was a problem as I love it – but I realised I needed to do other things as well. I have been walking every day, reading every day and listening to Tony Robbins in the morning for an hour or so.
Funnily enough, I have found that spending time on myself has made me more productive in my business. I can get more done even though I have less time than I had before.

That last point is a common one. Notice I’m replying on the weekend…
It’s terrible that we have to be reminded or encouraged to spend time with real people and to read real books. But it is sooo true time flies by when on the PC tweaking and reading and blogging etc. and before you know it the weekend is gone. Great post Thanks :)

No problem, and thank YOU for stopping by!
Brandon,
Thanks for the reminder. I like to tweak my blog design and social media accounts on Saturdays while watching college football.
My Aggies aren’t televised every week, so I usually listen to them over the internet (like I am right now) and that is a very convenient time to do this type of activity.

This is a must share!
The only thing to do with good advice is pass it on. It is never any use to oneself.

Why thanks, and thanks for passing it on!
I see the same thing with traffic. Monday and Thursday are the busiest days for me as well. I try and make a point to post on those days or submit posts to social places on these days.
Real people off line? What’s that? Lol

Haha, they do exist. :)
My own heavy traffic day used to be Monday, but lately has shifted to Friday with the biggest source being Twitter. I’m not sure what’s up with that, but I make sure I’m working on something early that day.
Reading books…hmmmm I have to think about that one. LOL
Thanks for this Brandon, it helped remind me of an old to do list.

Haha I like “spend time with real people” that sure is important :)
