What You Must Do In Your First Few Days of a New Blog

I don’t know who said it, but one if my favorite qoutes is, “Success is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration. That’s especially true in the world of blogging. A hundred blogs die in the dust each day because of a poor commitment to good old-fashioned hard work.

So here is a brief challenge to do these few things really well at the outset…

WORK. Hard!

RESEARCH everything relevant.

WRITE a lot. At least daily if at all possible.

PROMOTE like crazy (but of course, don’t annoy anybody).

DREAM of what your blog will become. Envision it.

So welcome to boot camp. Survive the first couple of months and you just might have a winning blog!

What else?

  1. Here is how I did. Before I went “public”, I published 5 articles. After that I spread the word about my blog and posts on Twitter; I also started to comment on other blogs.

The reason for doing this? I wanted that when a reader visits my blog, finds and sees these articles. It would be a lost chance if he visits my blog with one post or even without.

What a great approach – to build the buzz and anticipation and launch with “loaded gun” per se? Good thinking!

Definitely agree with the writing part. I think most people fail at blogging because they eventually slow down or stop writing. Of course, I’m as guilty as this as anyone sometimes going months without writing anything. It certainly is a good idea to get a good writing habit down.

I’ve spent many nights at this computer while the clock ticked away and I was exhausted and getting cranky..but I just kept thinking, “It’ll pay off…it’ll pay off…it’ll pay off….” It’s my “business” so to speak. If I don’t put in the blood, sweat and tears, no one else is going to do it and I have that much of an advantage over those “casual” bloggers.

I started a love affair with my blog. Here is what I also try to do: read carefully other blogs, learn from experts (not gurus… you are right :) ), leave comments on other blogs, read magazines (yes… paper), talk with friends about topics and then write…

  5. I threw my pseudoname, nickname and came front to face for my writings.

I read, read and read. As many posts as I can and commented on few of them that vibrated my words.

Still been unable to post everyday but anyway 7 posts a week is maintained.

I dream and happy to dream! I wish I’m in right track.

  6. Great post Brandon. Blogging is no easy task, and it really does take a commitment to be successful. I’m glad that before I started blogging, I read every article that I could find about blogging.

Since having good content is just half the battle, I determined to make as many connections as possible so I can spread the word about my blog but at the same time, help these people out as well.

Anyway, great points in the article as well as the comments. Keep up the great work Brandon.
